Lemieux against Golovkin would be Golovkin vs Stevens re-visited, but a shorter version.

Not necessarily. Lemieux was a 22 y.o. kid who was being over-aggressive and got caught diving in with a short shot and didn't know how to survive, which is when he punched himself out. It's like saying Golovkin will hurt Ward more quickly than Boone did.

That said, I don't give Lemiuex much of a chance. I look at this fight like Hagler/Hearns. We've seen GGG take bombs from Stevens & Adama just fine and we've seen Lemieux get hurt a bit from Rosado and definitely by Rubio. It'll be short and violent.

You don't think he's improved? I think his improvements are glaring. That's not to day he is worthy of ggg or ever will be but open your eyes.

True you can get lazy from fighting the same level of competition and learning nothing.

I figure his last few fights were to build his confidence back up and to try and learn/utilize new things with his new trainer. He stepped up last year with Guerrero and Rosado. They're not top tier, but they're not bottom shelf fighters

I'd say that's conclusive evidence that GGG wants to unify his own division, like he says. You would need to be very biased indeed to view it in any other way.
Maybe Dr Pepper is talking about all the soft touches GGG has taken along the way, even in title defenses. Go down the list sometime and see. And don't just say 'X was the #1 challenger', or that no one will fight him. Look at the challengers and the challenge they gave GGG. Rubio, Geale, Adama, Macklin, Ishida, Simon, Tapia... And that's just during title reign. GGG is great, yes, but I also think he was brought up very carefully.

Lemieux is a harder puncher and a better boxer than Stevens. Stevens won't even let his hands go anymore, and never did much in the last half dozen fights anyway IMO.

Lemieux has definitely improved with the new trainer. As for RIGHT NOW, in a perfect world I would like to see him fight another good contender, then Cotto, then GGG. And if Cotto won't agree, then two good contenders, then GGG. It would be long odds for him to get past GGG, but he certainly would have a better chance with more experience... which I don't think he has enough of just yet.

I give Lemieux a decent chance against anyone at 160 besides GGG. This fight would be a nice slugfest but Lemieux would get the beating of his lifetime.
