I agree Duran won but he did not dominate the fight and the 2nd fight was close and no one dominated so i do not see how you could say Duran>LeonardComment

Because it is an irrefutable fact that he did make him quit. Why are you even attempting to argue this matter?Comment

i had the fight either way after 7 and duran was winning the 8th imo. so quitting because leonard was better was not the reason.
yeah leonard did run more than he used to, and i like leonard. but they gave him a 24ft ring so what's he to do?Comment

Well, after the ridiculous circus in the seventh round, I think Duran looked at the fight as a circus and chose not to participate. I have to say, that I think he did a great thing for boxing by quitting. When it becomes such a farce, it is getting pretty bad.
After all, the fight was much closer than I thought when I first watched it. Watched it only yesterday and yes, Leonard was winning but it Duran landed his share as well. Honestly I know Duran was not the same guy from five months before. His hunger and ferocity were not in him that night. I think from not feeling well, coupled with the ridiculous performance by Leonard in a giant ring, he said to hell with it. And how many guys fought like Leonard was doing before that fight? In fights before 1980, fans would have called it a joke. Of course, some still do but I think this fight started a lot of watering down in boxing.
I also read where many fans left the arena after the second round. I think the reason is it was pathetic compared to their first fight.Comment
