They shouldn't take away points. They should use low level electric shock.
A boxer must punch at least every 10 seconds (insuring 18 punches around) or
they get shocked.
If two boxers are too far apart for more than 10 seconds they each get electric shocks to incentive to engage.
In the event boxers are hugging and holding the electrodes on their bodies wil determine if blows are being thrown and it would also judge the effect of leaning on your opponent. If that happens more than 10 seconds boxers get shocked.
So boxers have the choice to engage or steal away time winning the round throwing a few punches but running away the rest of the time.
They will win the round but be subject to electric shocks.
There are fighters that flat out run and are not doing much of an art form. DLH vs Tito, Mayweather often in the final round when he's well ahead, etc. Fighters usually lose the round for this but that doesn't matter if they're ahead, though an additional point off more often may make more of a difference and stop this spoiling tactic that probably hurts the sport as well.
Exactly my point. It would serve as a deterrent. If these guys can get away with it, they won't stop since they have no honor.
I have more problems with the constant clinching/holding that some fighters do, every round when a fighters gets close to them.
It's very annoying. I think both hurt the entertainment value of a fight. Running is just such a sissy thing though. How are you supposed to brag about that even if you do win?
No. Boxing is not a street fight, It's an art form to hit and not be hit. What you call "running" is the movement, footwork and defensive elements of boxing. It's as important a offensive elements.
Boxing is a game of chess not checkers, It's not about standing up, brawling or trading punches. Fighters who can't play chess usually don't last long in the high levels of the sport
Antonio Margarito had a 17 year career and was a world champion. I didn't realize he was a chess master.

Check out Edwin Rodriguez vs. Azea Augustama. The ref warned Augustama towards the end of the fight to stop running and engage. You would favor that referee, Ray Corona.
If points start disappearing, they would have to stop. This should be enforced and I agree in football as well. Running the clock out is robbing the fans.
ya just completely change the entire sport of boxing because a few people are only happy when u get 2 guys who suck at defense brawling give me a dam break
