Joe. Ward would have to catch up before his career is over but he can do it if he stops messing around.

Calzaghe:
Knocking down Chris Eubank and winning on points
The unbelievably 1 sided schooling of Jeff Lacy
Embarrassing Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins in their own country
Handing Kessler his first loss for all the marbles.
retired undefeated
bigger draw
Ward:
Headbutted Kessler in Oakland until the referee had to stop the fight due to cuts and refused to give him a rematch in his own country.
Won an ugly decision against Froch in America and refused to give him a rematch in his own country.
Defeated a disgustingly weight drained Chad Dawson who killed his career by trying to make 168Last edited by Monaco Slim; 02-07-2015, 07:45 PM.Comment

I can see where you're coming from RE: Hopkins-Calzaghe but this one is reaching. Kessler had some success in the first 4 rounds but then Calzaghe dominated the fight after that. It was not a close back n forth either way fight, it was a very clear victory where Kessler was well beatencalzaghe's 7-5 win over kessler is outclassing? a fight that if it was in denmark kessler almost surely wins. many people had froch beating kessler 7-5 in the first fight but it was in denmark. you pretend they are on 2 different levels but they aren't. Both were competitive fights. calzaghe fought on even terms with robin reid so are they on the same level? you are still trying to prove calzaghe is better through triangle warfare and you seem to be implying kessler is better than froch when that is ridiculous(dwyer accent). Ward beat froch and kessler. 2 top guys. Calzaghe really didn't fight 2 legit top guys besides hopkins and kessler and hopkins was a robbery. He beat more crap fighters so I guess that's something.
Kessler and Froch are a similar level. A lesser version of Kessler that is, was in two closeish fights with Froch over 24 rounds. So are you saying Ward's win over Froch takes him above Calzaghe?
The other top guy in Calzaghe's division was Sven Ottke. Robin Reid, Byron Mitchell and Charles Brewer all got shafted in Germany against him. Then came Lacy and Kessler.
Ward's era had a deeper talent pool - and even still his resume is very overrated. People say he cleaned up the division but he didn't even face Dirrell or Bute. His wins are a lesser version of Kessler and Carl Froch.Last edited by Dirk Diggler UK; 02-07-2015, 07:49 PM.Comment

Kind of unfair to compare the career of someone like Ward who at age 30, still has a while to go. I think anyone would agree that if Ward continues his career in the same fashion his achievements will mop the floor with CalSlappy's.Comment

The fact remains that even at this stage of Ward's career, he has a good argument that his accomplishments have surpassed those of Calzaghe's, who was a first-ballot Hall of Famer.Comment

froch and kessler may be on a similar level head to head but froch has a much better resume and is a much better fighter overall. just like robin reid and calzaghe were on a similar level head to head but no one thinks robin reid is as good as calzaghe.I can see where you're coming from RE: Hopkins-Calzaghe but this one is reaching. Calzaghe has a deeper resume but guys like mitchell and brewer really aren't stand outs in any sense. A guy like abraham is probably above them. Ward has 2 great wins to calzaghe's 1. Calzaghe has more Ok wins but Ok wins are a lot easier to get. Great careers aren't made on ok wins. Leonard had a short career and had 4 great wins(maybe even 5 if you count lineal champ kalule) So basically Leonard is better than ward and calzaghe. that was the topic right?Comment
