Why isn't Marquez as popular as Canelo?

Because by the time marqiez was a star he was old..
Canelo has been hyped since his teenage days...
That's the difference, plus marquez had barrera and morales also to deal withComment

marquez is #1 canelo can't live up to his nameWhat is the variable(s) that enable Canelo to headline his own shows against an Angulo and do 350k, while Marquez can't headline against a guy like Bradley and crack 200k?
In general, I think it's safe to say Canelo can do bigger numbers than Marquez with similar opponents.
Why? Marquez is way more exciting, more skilled, has been on the bigger stage more... Marquez is everything a Mexican boxer should be... Although he falls more in the Mexican school of boxing that focuses on precision boxing/punching/counterpunching, than the Mexican school that focuses on inside fighting.Comment

One word ''Televisa'' they spent millions building him into a star in Mexico and abroad. And all it took was one negative Canelo article written in a Televisa owned magazine and Canelo cut ties with them. But that is who is responsible for Canelo's popularity.Comment

exactly he's like the only child in the family so he is a spoiled marquez had 2 no 3 rivals to go up againstComment

Some of my Mexican friends told me he was disliked because in Mexico it was believed that he was a fabricated fighter by Televisa.Comment

lol I love how no one wants to say it.
Because he's white. That's it. Self-hating mexicans (pretty much any mexican that doesn't look like louis c.k.) hate that they're not full european and have always wanted a white mexican champ. The dudes at criollo mexico love this dude. Mexico puts guys like William Levy in their tv shows. Yeah, No obvious bias here.
In Mexico, they tell you everything white is better, while the word indio is used as a derogatory insult, so why would anyone from Mexico want to push someone that looks even remotely not white. In Mexico it's the whiter the better. Same applies to boxers.
Mexico doesn't support their fighters as much as they should. But now that they finally found one that they like (how he looks). Overrated-ass fighter. Canelo barely lost to Marquez for 2nd place in a nation-wide Mexico's best athlete poll at the end of 2012. Remember that's after Marquez knocked out Pac and Canelo beat...pfftt....Josesito Lopez.:sowwy:Comment

maybe that is why he fought josesito and had much higher ratings(in mexico) than chavez-maravilla that fought at the same time...
both fights for free on national tv...Comment
