Smaller weight class and he never had the kind of push Alvarez received long before he was ever a titleholder. The ginger had the hype machine behind him for a long time.

Yeah Marquez is a cheat because he knocked out your hero. F'n pathetic. Manny basically jumped into that punch. It would knocked anyone out being that reckless. It was a basic counter. Get over it.

      Marquez is God.

Marquez is one of those "Sangron" Mexicans. His kind thinks that they're above everyone else with their smoggy ass city. A lot of Mexicans from D.F. and Monterrey are like that.

Very well spoken and does a fantastic job of breaking down fights and fighters styles.

I don't know if the fact he really made a name for himself outside the country has any effect on his popularity. It seems like he's always been overshadowed by other Mexican fighters whether it was Barerra, Morales, or even his own brother. By the time those guys were done Chavez Jr. and Canelo were starting to be pushed heavily in Mexico. One things for though, he's clearly the most respected Mexican fighter at the time he just doesn't sell as he should.

That's complete bullshit, just because the guy is educated and well spoken he's a sangrón now?

In general, I think it's safe to say Canelo can do bigger numbers than Marquez with similar opponents.

Why? Marquez is way more exciting, more skilled, has been on the bigger stage more... Marquez is everything a Mexican boxer should be... Although he falls more in the Mexican school of boxing that focuses on precision boxing/punching/counterpunching, than the Mexican school that focuses on inside fighting.
He's not as popular as Alvarez because of his motto which many fans can't relate to.

"One cup of piss a day, puts Pacquiao away."

Don't garret Marquez vs Timmie Brads did 375k. He's in Canelos ballpark with top opponents.

He goes beyond the education & well spoken part.

Maybe because Canelo is one hell of a lot better fighter than you are giving him credit for. Watch what he does to Kirkland and maybe you will understand why the Mexicans love him. They love Marquez too of course. Marquez is an old star that hardly ever fights any more. Canelo is very young with incredible accomplishments for a fighter just turning 24. Compare what Marquez had done when he turned 24 and Canelo has done more.
