Didn't 'need to', but he did it to try to scare Cinnamon off the date. But since he wasn't budging, he went ahead and poached his opponent. Now that he has took away the only fight that could threaten 'Cinco de Mayweather' (barring Canelo fighting Manny), he doesn't need to keep up the Pacquiao charade. Notice how he hasn't uttered a peep about Manny since that Showtime scripted segway.

From the moment he opened his mouth about Manny (after weeks of silence, and only after Oscar announced Canelo agreed to the Cotto terms), I said it was all about trying to scare Cinammon and co. off the date. He figured the only name that would get Canelo-Cotto bumped off May 2 would be a Pacquiao fight. Khan, Garcia, Thurman, etc wouldn't be enough.

But looks like now that Pac and the Networks are all on board and took him seriously... he went with plan B- steal Canelo's prom date

It's my 'fairy tale'... yet as Pac announces he's agreed to terms, the networks are negotiating a distribution deal... Oscar says he thinks May-Cotto II will happen, Cotto's adviser says Floyd reached out to them for a fight, Fat Dan is reporting the fight is imminent. But this is all a figment of my imagination.

Just curious- if and when Floyd-Cotto II is announced... what will your reaction be?

That would really suck and hopefully if Showtime sees the response that threads like this generate it won't happen. It won't likely be a financial success if nobody wants to see it. I lose what little respect i have left for Mayweather if he has a rematch with a guy he knows he has already beat and is a safe fight and if it does happen I hope everybody boycotts it.
