Back in the 70's and 80's boxers had tune ups all the time but the championships wouldn't be on the line because the challenger didn't earn the right to fight for it. This made sure that guys like Baldomir couldn't just get lucky and beat an unmotivated Zab Judah and call themselves world champion.
It doesn't matter anyways because Mayweather went to beat Judah right after. So either way Mayweather beat both of them.

However, I don't agree that Floyd was either no.1 or no.2 prior to the Mosley fight, just for beating Marquez.

Pacquiao obliterating Cotto, who beat Cottey and Mosley, and Mosley himself who had just destroyed a high ranking Margarito, both rank higher for me.

If anything, I see it as:

        1. Mosley
        2. Pacquiao
        3. Margarito/Mayweather
How can Margarito be ranked ..he was suspended

I can't see how you can rank Cotto below Mosley, considering Cotto had beaten him.

Margo beat Cotto, Cotto beat Mosley so Mosley ranks over Cotto? Mosley did not have a win at 147 after Cotto beat him, and before the Margo fight.

Even Clottey had a win in between then, over Judah

You can quite easily replace him with Mayweather

Well Cotto had just lost and some considered the fight between Margo and Cotto as the fight to determine the #1 ww..and Margo won...So Cotto losing gave Mosley a chance to become #1..it is all speculative....but Floyd is the lineal champ..you wont find any other website that says different

So you agree that Floyd beating Guerrero established a lineage then?

The RING did not recognise Mayweather/Margarito vs Mosley as lineage starting fights

Who gives a *****e about Ring Magazine? This is not perception. It is a fact that FMJ is the lineal Champ at 147lb and 154lb. No one else has a claim untill FMJ is beaten.

Do not get it confuse. Lineage is one thing, The Ring magazine Champ is another thing.

Currently, yes, Floyd is widely considered to be #1 (in rankings at least) since PAC got KTFO.

Doesn't matter though considering the circumstances and the fact that it wasn't Floyd who KO'd him, and he still duckin. Before that, PAC was #1 @ WW and P4P for a VERY long time.
