Actually, the same day Floyd announced his rematch with Maidana, he said he said he had a surprise for his May fight.

It was at some award show in the summer.

Not as far as I know. Last I heard, Canelo had agreed to terms and the only hold up was them figuring out the beer sponsor for the fight (one guy has a deal with Corona while Top Rank has an agreement with Tecate I think). But all reports have made it clear the fight is nearly complete and on the verge of being officially signed for May 2nd.

Meanwhile Floyd posted Marquez highlight videos on facebook and tried to use Manny's name to scare competition away from May 2nd while bringing up the usual roadblocks.

That's all nice and well but honestly I don't think Cotto cares. He hasn't in the past and that's not gonna change now. I mean all we have to do is look at his past fight negotiating to know he does what he wants unless he is pitted against a fighter he respects as being a higher seller i.e. Floyd and Manny. There is a resin Cottos team is playing hard ball. Cotto might give up the date and the venue but he sure as hell is gonna get a much higher purse for doing so. He's not giving up everything for Canelo.
