Why not the first Saturday in August? Or March? Or February? Why does he wear a Mexican flag on his shorts?

Yeah... Don't recall seeing anything about Cotto having an issue with May 2nd (not counting FLoyd stans). He's a businessman, he knows the fight does its most business then. He fought Sergio last year on PR Day weekend and the fight was huge financial disappointment, meanwhile Alvarez fought on Mexican Independence Day in 2013 and the fight brought in record profit.

If anything, I'd assume Cotto would be more concerned with getting a neutral venue.

Oh I don't know, The Mexican holiday is in the first sat in May, Oscar originally fought on that date, and when he retired, Floyd took it over, good for business, and whatever.

Point is, Floyd has been fighting that date for several years now, and even announced his next fight was in May straight after the Maidana fight, so you know. . . Why should Floyd fold to Canelo's demands? a man he has beaten in the ring for a start.

Yeah, true. I think Vegas is more neutral for both considering the other options. Texas? Nope. NYC? Nope. Plus they generate more gate revenue in vegas.

That's all I needed to see. Look Canelo is trying to establish his brand targeting his demographic. I don't see nothing wrong with it all. If Floyd wants that date, fight worthy opponents.

Well that's where you've shot yourself in the foot. . . Because Floyd does want that date, with Pac, probably the most worthy opponent anyone could think of. So. . .

If that article is from Ring mag from 2 days ago, Arum says near the end that Floyd's Boss Moonves is on board with Caneo/Cotto having May 2nd and holding Floyd/Pac on another date. If the former is officially signed for Cinco de Mayo weekend and Showtime/CBS tells Floyd to get a different date... then we'll see how genuine Floyd was when he name-dropped Manny... after being completely silent for almost a month after being called out... and only talking Pacquiao after Canelo agreed to terms for May 2nd.
Key aides are reportedly working for Mayweather and Pacquiao, with CBS Corporation Chief Executive Leslie Moonves bringing the two sides together.

Arum said Moonves is ***8220;fully aware***8221; of his feelings regarding Cinco De Mayo.

***8220;I believe that that is his position, also
. All that means is that Les has communicated that to me, and I***8217;ve communicate that to him, and I***8217;ll communicate that to everybody,***8221; said Arum.

There is a difference between "calling someone out" and actually sitting down to negotiate. Contracts being written up and signed. I've heard this charade from Floyd before with the "Pacquiao, you're next." Yadda Yadda Yadda. I'll believe it when I see it. Canelo/Cotto is more realistic than May/Pac.

I see nothing wrong with Canelo wishing for those dates.

The problem is that he didnt earn those. He had his chance and got his ass whupped.

Secondly, its ******ed to pretend that Mexican fighters have an inside track to get those. You can go over the past ten years and see how few of them fought on those dates.

So to me its a case of to the victor goes the spoils so to speak.
