Comments Thread For: Hopkins Rips Jackson: How Can He Teach With Credibility?

IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins is not finished with taking some shots at John David Jackson, the trainer of WBO 175-pound beltholder Sergey Kovalev.

Jackson challenged Hopkins for the IBF middleweight title in 1997 and saw himself get stopped in the seventh round of action.

Hopkins laughs off any discussion of Jackson teaching his boxer a proper strategy to secure a solid victory on Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. If Kovalev shows no respect, and no mercy, Jackson believes his fighter will get another knockout victory.

ah you should have kept the quote going longer, it was funny about him saying Kovalev will be asking how come you never showed me the tape, etc

How many top trainers could've beaten Hopkins in the ring? Someone can spot every flaw a fighter has and develop a smart game-plan, yet not have the abilities (e.g. speed/power/durability) to win the bout.

Moreover, since losing to Hopkins, Jackson served as his assistant-trainer for multiple bouts, so he probably knows him better now.

What is Jackson supposed to do? Suck Hopkins's **** and eat his ass? Of course he's going to say that his student is going to beat your former employer.

It's funny how when someone, ANYONE, shoves a mic in BHops face, the blowhard goes on for days if you let him. Yet when the same happens with Khan, also a blowhard, the Khan haters blow a gasket. Both have lost fights. Both are talented. Neither are the GOAT.

And then we have the old blowhard here trying to make it sound like Jackson isn't a good trainer, when Jackson has easily as much success training fighters as Naazim.

I like Hopkins' fighting style in the ring, that is when he isn't doing his famous punch N grab b.s. But damn, with him endlessly blabbering away like he keeps doing more and more as time goes by, I am now 100% ready for Kov to punch his feking lights out later tonight.

Bhop has lots of knowledge and has been in the game forever. A lot do things he says make you think. Don't compare his yapping to khan who just begs for a Floyd fight and acts like he's gods gift to earth

that was kinda ****** of Hopkins to say. its not like Jackson couldn't have seen some flaws that he couldn't exploit unlike the much harder hitting kovalev

I agree. im sure Jackson has seen flaws in hops that he couldn't exploit but maybe a much harder puncher in kovalev maybe able to. styles make fights. just becuz Jackson didn't have the style to beat hops doesn't mean he doesn't have the knowledge to exploit some flaws that he couldn't overcome

What are Jacksons archievements? I doubt hes a top notch Trainer. Who has he trained to stardom recently? He was the trainer of Abdusalamov and to me it seems he couldnt teach him anything to improve.....but i have no doubt he knows Hopkins so for this particular fight he should be the right one. But i rate Naazim a much better Trainer than Jackson.
