Freddie Roach: Amir Khan can beat Floyd Mayweather, Criticizes Hunter.

Nah, man. Under roach, Khan would either clinch or cover up.
Under Hunter he now fights it out up close, or clinches. He hasn't fought much under Hunter. But against Collazo he looked great with how he used his speed. If he fights like that, he will be tought for anybody at 147 to beat.Comment

I felt Stewart was the trainer to go with when he left Roach, obviously not being aware of just how ill Manny was.
His passing was a shame in a much larger context than him not working with Khan but that would have been a great pairing for me.
Stewart would have given him the balance to settle down onto his punches at a distance where he could land and then slide out of range rather than jumping in and out like he had a tendency to do with Roach or clinching like he now does under Hunter.
I can understand why Virgil has his fighters do that. He's safety first, but professional boxing isn't primarly about self defence, it's a spectacle first and foremost.
This is one of the few recent occations where I've agreed with what Roach has said. On a side note, it's a travesty that Amir was allowed to take three or four months off at a time without going near a boxing gym when he still had so many flawsmthat he brought from his amateur days.Comment

Too advanced for these guys , Khan wont bother Floyd he will mentally crumble when Floyds timing and ring craft nullifys anything Khan can do .People are too gullible
On top of having an incredibly low ring iq and terrible fighting instincts, Amir's type of style hasn't had any historical significance when it comes to troubling Floyd
Nearly everyone who had some success applied pressure. They weren't particularly fast either
Amir's reckless and open to counters. With Hunter he panics
It will be an amateur against a pro , actually Khan is going to be very lucky to sc**** by Devon .Comment

Certain trainers mainly work well with fighters from a young age upwards, like Floyd senior for instance. A lot of his techniques that work so well with Floyd Jnr is hard to teach a fighter late in the game and can sometimes damage a fighter because its not their natural style. This seems to be the case with a lot of father son teams. They know they're student better then anyone but it doesn't translate with others. I think Virgil Hunter fits in to this category and is why he has been so successful with Andre Ward but not other fighters...with that being said I feel Khan benefits in some areas of learning some of Wards techniques. Khan has definitely lost a bit of his sting but we are still yet to see if working with Hunter in the long term will benefit him. I definitely think Khan benefits from tying up when in close.
Trainers like Freddie Roach and the late great Manny Steward fall in to the category of trainers that can work well with experienced fighter, because they work on their strengths, maybe tweak here and there but generally stay within the fighters natural boundaries. Manny Stewards philosophy was to always listen to the fighter.
I agree that Khan and Manny Steward would have been a great fit, it's a shame that didn't happen.Comment
