Aside from a D class punching bag that was a bad stoppage, who has Canelo KO'd at 154?

That's sad... Canelo can't take the title from someone in their own hometown? The guy has never fought outside of Vegas or Texas, maybe he should actually go to someone else's hometown to earn a little bit more respect from people.

Canelo needs Cotto more than Cotto need Canelo
Canelo is a top 5 draw in all of boxing. IF Cotto was able to beat him (which he's not) then he would gain a considerable PPV push, and depending on how close the fight could be (which it won't be) then Cotto would gain a rematch, and another fat a$$ payday.

What does Cotto gain from beating GGG? Everyone will just say GGG wasn't as good as we thought he was.

What does Cotto gain from fighting Taylor, Lara, Trout again, etc?

Sure as hell nothing like if he fights Canelo.

They need each other. There's no other realistic big fight for Cotto.

Intersting fight indeed amigo-with-the-botas-chingonas!....Cotto may have his ego (as this article mentions) but the man has balls to take on Canelo....and the event would be EPIC

Hell no, Cotto won't be fighting in Texas. And like I said before, Vegas is very unlikely unless Canelo is willing to give Cotto a huge percentage of the purse.

Worry about robbery? Canelo is going to scored a 7th-round knockout win here
Because Cotto is not ALL about the money like people assumed he would be. Also, Team Cotto knows very well that fighting in Texas or Vegas would be like fighting Canelo in Mexico. He might as well just agree to go to Mexico, because the population would be that overwhelming in either location.

I highly doubt Team Cotto is even thinking about going head to head against Floyd's PPV. They are thinking of themselves and only themselves. Not Floyd. Fighting on Cinco De Mayo weekend (Mexican holiday) at a Mexican dominant venue like Vegas or Texas, is not going to fly with them.

This is the most money either will make besides rematching Floyd and that isn't viable right for either right now. They'll find a way to get it done.
In my opinion, if this fight doesn't happen in New York, then it won't happen at all. It's either New York, or no deal. It's very, very unlikely Cotto will go to Vegas or Texas. VERY unlikely. Canelo and Oscar better smarten up. I told people before Cotto is going to give these guys a rude awakening. Everyone assumed Cinco De Mayo and Vegas. no way.

you want to take the bet then??
its been a couple of weeks since the negotiations started and the fight will be 6 months from now, wouldnt surprise me if it becomes official between the next 2 weeks... anyways penagaricano him self said that the fight will happen in may and no crazy demands from cotto, and he also said that the fight will take place where is better financially regardless of who takes home field advantage...

canelo has home field adv over cotto anywhere but NY or PR , so is not exclusive for vegas or texas... the fight will take place where the most money can be generated regardless of who has the advantage...

I don't care where it happens or when, although I'd prefer sooner than later. I do think Cotto should get the "A-side" respect here but he's gotta be wiling to make compromise, Nelo is a cash cow himself.

This all has to get settled, this is the biggest fight the sport has to look forward to right now. Don't want another Floyd/Manny situation where it's always talked about but never actually happens. I think Oscar is just being smart and not wanting to jump the gun and act like this fight is 100% a done deal before contracts are signed...but luckily for all of us it seems like it's gonna happen and hopefully this all gets agreed upon soon.
