Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Admits Cotto-Canelo Negotiations Are Tough

The President of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya, confirms that his company has already begun early discussions for a fight between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) and WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs).

Both fighters were scheduled to return in separate fights in December, and both of those bouts were canceled. Cotto made a decision to push back his return to 2015 and Canelo suffered an ankle injury which forced him to withdraw from a scheduled fight with Joshua Clottey.

It IS the biggest fight that can be done next year, barring a sudden Mayweather/Haymon-Arum beef squash to make the Pac fight. But if Cotto gets too tough to deal with, he(Cotto) can always just fight Golovkin, something Canelo says he has no problem doing. Or, Cotto can just fight some weak title holder like Bundrage or unify with Quillin, two decent fights no one would really care about given the other options. Cotto would be ****** to not fight Canelo. It's a big, big fight that would gain a lot of popularity, and would surely live up to the hype with the styles these two bring.

Canelo needs to know his role

Cotto is the A-side and has the belt and "lineal title"

Canelo should accept all of Cotto's demands because if he wins, hes drawing power and purses go up considerably

They both need to check their egos, get paid and keep it movin. Boxing is so ridiculous. It would be like nfl teams negotiating the kickoff time, so ridiculous.

What does Cotto get from beating Canelo tho?

If Canelo wins, he has a HOF on his resume, a MW lineal title and the coveted Cinco De Mayo PPV date until someone bigger comes along which won't be any time soon

Canelo needs Cotto more than Cotto need Canelo
