Btw Maidana showed he can time a fighter like Floyd there's no reason to think he can't time Keith fcking Thurman.
Disagree with that. Definitely not Khan anyway. Ortiz is debatable but he hasn't stopped anyone above C level, same as Chaves. I also thought he was winning the Rios fight, without the ****** point deductions he would've been 3/4 points to the good.

You mean that big shot he caught Floyd with at the end of round 3? That's one example, I can't think of many others. Timing is an instinct, I don't think Maidana has it.

So I guess Thurman is thought to have a weak chin...

Or is at least some of it wishful thinking on the part of frustrated Maidana fans?

Other thing is I'm not sure that Thurman is getting enough credit for having smarts enough to box when he ought to. I was impressed in the Soto-Karass fight when One Time appeared to have accepted that he wasn't gonna' be able to get the KO and he spent a lot of time on his toes jabbing and giving angles and staying off the ropes mostly.

I remember when people thought Canelo had a weak chin cos Cotto's brother badly wobbled him.

Sometimes you just get caught with a good shot, regardless of the level of opposition. Thurman recovered within 2-3 seconds and won the round. The way people go on about it you'd think he was out on his feet.

It's too early to say whether or not he's got a good chin, it's unproven.

Thurman's never really been tested so you're incorrectly making the assumption he's going to respond to adversity unlike Maidana who has made a career out of that.

Thurman wins. Maidana is trying to cash out. Hell he's even ducking the broner rematch

Khan stopped Paulie, Zab, and dropped Maidana at lightweight , what has Chaves done? Chaves lost that fight simply because he's not that good all-around and can't handle pressure. Mike Alavarado did a great job of neutralizing Rios in the second fight an even managed to hurt hi something Chaves couldn't do.

He timed Floyd many times particularly in the first fight.

I would pick Chaves to stop those versions of Pauli and Zab tbh. Obviously Khan has shown more because he's more known, had more opportunities etc, he's for sure a better fighter too.

I don't really see the Rios fight as a loss for Chaves, the judges had him up, as did many others. I thought he dealt with Rios easily enough and the only reason it was close on the cards is because he was behaving like an idiot (as was Rios) and asking for point deductions.

I don't think Chaves is anything special or a huge puncher, just a decent all-round C+/B- fighter.

Based on what? Hell Cotto couldn't stop the 140 version of Paulie and he fought with one eye the whole fight. He's squandered his opportunities to prove himself and somehow is still getting another shot.

It don't really matter, Chaves lost to Rios. As Maidana pointed out Chaves can't handle pressure and it showed. The judges had Chaves up a point or two and Rios was clearly making a push.
