If Kovalev defeats Hopkins, he wont get much credit. The story will be Hopkins finally got too old.

If Kovalev KOs Hopkins then his power will become legendary. I don't see how anyone can deny that.

That's extremely naïve making an advanced assumption of age just because the other guy wins if he wins. If Hopkins cant pull the trigger or is noticeably slower and shows signs of aging, then people will know it was because of age. If Hopkins is his usual self, fighting the fight he always fights as loses, the age excuse isn't going to fly, especially as some LAME built-in excuse before the fight has even started without knowing how Hopkins will perform.

There's nothing naïve about it chap. Hopkins is an old man defying age. That train has to stop at some point and when it does it'll be abrupt. Age is very much part of the equation, not an excuse... a prime B-Hop would beat Kovalev because he's much more skilful, but his age won't serve him well against such a strong opponent. B-Hop can win this IMO, but only if he manages to take Kovalev the distance. Even with his considerable "spoiler" skills that's a big ask at his age.

You missed the point entirely. I said just assuming Hopkins loses because of age without knowing the circumstances and how he performed is naïve. That is like reading the headline of who won a fight and automatically assuming a fighter lost because of age without seeing the fight and knowing what took place such as is the case in advance of the fight.

Hopkins in this fight could A) be slower, his reflexes and ability to pull the trigger diminished, be missing shots he would normally land, etc., which would illustrate a fighter who finally aged or B) he could put on a great performance, one that has netting him wins against younger fighters and simply lose to a guy who was better than the other guys Hopkins fought. But to automatically assume he loses because of age is blatantly naïve without knowing how Hopkins performed. Simply put, he could perform the way he has beating other top, younger fighters and still lose - or show obvious signs of aging and decline during the fight and lose in that manner as well.

And sometimes age DOES serve you well against a strong opponent because you can counter them, their rushes, their momentum, unlike fast footed fighters who you have to track down and end up tiring when you no longer move as quickly on your feet as you used to.

The fans who are unbiased and realistic will know that if Hopkins loses, which situation is really the case. My pick is Hopkins by decision after making some early adjustments. The fact that Hopkins took this fight that no one thought he would shows his character. I'm okay with any outcome as long as he does not get hurt. That will not sit well at all.
