yet cotto had no problem JUST moving up to middleweight to face him now,years later,but it was a problem back then,why didn't he face another middleweight champion instead of an inactive,old fighter coming off surgeries?..simple,it's easier now to beat him,back then his excuse was that Martinez didn't bring money,even laughed about it when asked,but all of a sudden years later he does? come one man,lets be honest here,we all know why cotto chose him now.it was an easy opportunity to become a 4 weight champion against the easiest of the champions at middleweight

You could talk about the belt all you want. But Cotto said it himself in the clip, Sergio brought no money and was too risky. If the 2011 Sergio had the WBO JMW title around his waist it wouldnt of made a difference. Sergio at that point was in the same position as GGG is in now, desperate to fight a name! Cotto was at 54, where Sergio previously competed, and the other name Chavez was at 60. Those were the guys he was shooting for. Chavez finally accepted the fight, and Sergio gave him a boxing lesson and received critical injuries in return. We all know how that turned out.

im not discredeting his wins. Im being a real boxing fan. Chavez jr has NO head movement, NO footwork, NO combination punching. Just an iron chin and great stamina and good power. Thats it. Pavlik HAD, documented, drug and alcohol problems. Thats nothing new. I like Pwilliams and hope he comes back soon and able to fight again, but the dude had virtually, NO defense. Just keepin it real bruh

Lots of questions but you don't seem to know/understand current situation. Froch was offered a fight - his promoter declined. Chaves jr. fight was almost done deal but he refused to sign at the end. Quillin was ducking many times and now he doesn't have the belt anymore.

I'm not saying Cotto should or is obligated to fight GGG. Cotto doesn't have a chance. Not even slightest. But than he should just give up the MW WBC belt and fight in weights where he's comfortable and stop claiming that he's lineal MW champion.

I agree. If after the canelo fight he doesnt fight GGG, he MUST vacate the belt and go back down to 154 lbs.

martinez isnt a big middleweight, he moved up because he got the pavlik gig a few months before. for the fight vs pwill 2 they had a catchweight of 158.martinez wanted to comeback down to 154 but cotto instead fought 2011 mayorga and manny's gift aka margacheato

There were no negotiations between Arum and Dibella during this time, the negotiations began after the Mayorga fight. And if the fight would have gone through it would have been at a catchweight of 155lbs for the middle weight title per Dibellas and Martinez's request. lets stick to the facts.

GGG and his team stay riding Cotto's dlck. They need to move on already and stop calling out Welterweights and Junior Middleweights.

They actually CAN call him out. He does hold one of the major belts at 160 lbs.

Sergio also had documented knee surgeries and also hand and shoulder surgeries prior to the cotto fight. Its funny how those arent relevant issues prior to the fight but the drugs and alchol for pavlik is. Cotto homerism is truly blinding....

Unlike bigjavi, I give Sergio credit for those wins, the reality is however that all of Martinez's big wins were against markedly similar opponents. Slow, flat footed, plodding, come forward punchers, all of which were taller then him. You think Martinez was not 100% for the Cotto fight? That's your opinion and that's fine, but even if Martinez was 100% that night he was unprepared for the fight and his being 100% would have only prolonged the inevitable. Like Roy Jones said Martinez's first mistake was thinking Cotto could not hurt him. But Martinez's actual first mistake was during training.
