Why aren't Ward fans calling for him to move up?

Take Sergio, formerly a legit MW champ. If Ward had said, lets fight at 160, Sergio should and likely would have accepted.Comment

Cotto is not much of a champ at 160 either, despite his lineal title. Even his fans say, he's a paper champ there more or less. If he was a legit champ, sure why not, lacking better challengers. But this is hypothetical on so many levels, for one cause neither guy said they'd drop to 160 for Cotto. It's a shame TBE's 2x, unified, reigning lineal status is reduced to this.

The scenarios are similar that's why. Cotto is a Jr MW holding the Lineage at MW. Floyd is a Welterweight holding the Lineage at 154. It is neither of their preferences to fight at that weight class and no one should expect them to fight guys that are another weight class higher.Comment

Why does it matter that they didn't say Cotto's name specifically? They said they would drop to the weight class. Simple as that.

Cotto only won the title 6 months ago, he has way to go before amassing Floyd's paper champ credentials.Comment

Why does it matter? Because it's a pipe dream otherwise. Both guys would have major major issues dropping to 160 and will only do it for the biggest money/PPV out there, which is not Cotto.

Why does it matter how long he's had the title? He has it now, the Lineage that you care so much about, when it's Floyd.Comment

He is 5'10" and he has made weight at 160 consistently for years, it would likely be a struggle but far from unlikely that he could do it. The weight he rehydrates to at middleweight is consistent with the weight typical 154 piunders weign in on fight night.Comment

To consider him moving down in weight after that amount of time as "far from unlikely" is a ridiculous notion.
It is absolutely unlikely. Impossible? No. Unlikely? Yes.
Anyone moving down to a weight that haven't been at in over a decade is obviously unlikely.Comment

Both lineal paper champs no doubt, just a question of degrees. Floyd much more so (2.5 years tenure, 2x, unified)Comment

The difference is GGG is willing to drop for the guy we're talking about, duh. Also I bet neighter of the two is within 7 lbs of 160 5 days before the fight.

You're clutching onto the fact he used his nameSo what? The fact is they both said they would move to 160 so again what is the difference?
Right both Lineal Champs, both above their ideal weight class, neither should be expected to fight guys in the weight class above that that claim they can make the weight class lower.Comment
