He has come under 160 for a decade. Just because you haven't done it yet means you cannot? Golovkin is not so large that 154 is out of reach. Besides any opponent at 154 would likely be happy with the difficulty of Golovkin making 154. Also Golovkin's fight night weight is cosistent with Canelo's (and other top 154 pounders) typical fight night weight. If Mayweather made Golovkin make 154 then Golovkin would likely (whether he made 154 or not) come in around 165 (like Canelo) on fight night.
Why aren't Ward fans calling for him to move up?

He's come in less than 160 (both barely and rarely) but he's never been less than a MW in over a decade and never as a pro.He has come under 160 for a decade. He is so large, he's not a small MW. Like I said he weighed 173 in the ring and not for the first time in the 170's that's not small for a MW.
There is nothing, and I say that literally, to suggest he can make that weight. (Without being completely dead at the weight)Comment

You doubt it was that low? Iole states it as a fact. Who's lying, you suppose?Like I've said multiple times I doubt he was that low considering he was 173 on fight night. Are you purposely ignoring that?
You're clutching onto the fact he used his name
So what? The fact is they both said they would move to 160 so again what is the difference?
Right both Lineal Champs, both above their ideal weight class, neither should be expected to fight guys in the weight class above that that claim they can make the weight class lower.
I don't even know what to say to that piece of defensiveness. They would move to 160 for Floyd, who would have to move up. Cotto wasn't mentioned by either guy.
Cotto still has time to prove he's not a paper champ at 160, though it's not looking good.Comment

From memory Canelo, Trout and Rosado have all made weight at 154 and weighed arournd the same as Golovkin on fight night. Maybe he would be greatly hindered at the weight if he made 154, all the more reason for the likes of Mayweather to fight him no? We saw Ward make Dawson make 168 and Ward knocked him out. What is Mayweather afraid of? The answer is of course losing. If a fighter can make the weight then he is of that weight. Hearns was a huge welterweight but for a while he could make that weight, therefore he was a welterweight. He's come in less than 160 (both barely and rarely) but he's never been less than a MW in over a decade and never as a pro.

Fighters fight where they're most comfortable...NO FAN have the right to tell Ward or any fighter to "MOVE UP"
It is completely up to the fighter to fight at the weight they're most comfortable at.
Chavez Jr or GGG once he move up are far bigger fights than Kovalev or Stevenson. He moves up to 175, beat Kovalev and Stevenson then guess what he is right back to the situation he is in NOW...waiting and looking for a Top Opponent.
If Kovalez beats B-Hop he could put pressure on Ward and call him out after that fight to put pressure on him.Last edited by sicko; 10-22-2014, 07:03 PM.Comment

Fans ultimately pay the fighters purses. If fans will pay for Ward to continue at 168 then fine but Ward has talked for quite a while about his inability to get a sufficiently lucrative fight and yet he doesn't want to move up in weight, where there are possible lucrative fights, so what should he do? There are good and lucrative fights for him at 168 but there are likely also ones at 175. He'd rather sue his promoter.Fighters fight where they're most comfortable...NO FAN have the right to tell Ward or any fighter to "MOVE UP"

Again, it depends on where the fighters is comfortable FIRST, just because fans PAY PURSE does not mean they can make a fighter fight at a weight he is not comfortable at. Right now Kovalev is not bigger fight than Waiting for GGG or Chavez Jr.Fans ultimately pay the fighters purses. Again he moves up to 175 and with him being with HBO, the only fight he has is Kovalez so like I originally posted, moving up doesn't just solves EVERYTHING, I think he would run into the exact same situation. Move up to 175 get to the Top then be STUCK waiting for guys at 168 to move up.
As long as he is making 168 with no problem IT IS NO NEED TO MOVE UP!Comment

I agree that Ward is a comfortable 168 pounder and that any fighter who is comfortable and successful at the weight should stay there. However Ward has consistently made claims about wanting more lucrative fights therefore it is reasonable for any boxing fan to think he should a least consider moving up in weight, or stop whining. Chavez and Golovkin probably are better options for him at 168, but instead he is suing his promoter and thus rendering him incapacitated until their situation is resolved.Again, it depends on where the fighters is comfortable FIRST, just because fans PAY PURSE does not mean they can make a fighter fight at a weight he is not comfortable at.
