There's a desperate desire amongst his critics to smear him as someone who's beating up smaller guys that's sadly undermined by the simple fact that he isn't. He's a moderately sized middleweight who makes weight very easily.
However, I do think that it may be in his best interest to move up next year if the Canelo fight isn't happening. There are pros and cons in that move.
The pros are that Chavez Jr, Froch, and maybe even Ward will still be available in a 12-18 month time frame, and that Golovkin could probably make a fight with at least two of those guys that would be big business.
The cons are that Golovkin is an offensively oriented fighter, which makes the jump in weight class a lot riskier than if he were he a more conservative boxer. Also, if Froch retires, and Ward either stays inactive or moves up to 175, there actually isn't a lot for GGG to chase at 168 either. He would be pursuing Chavez Jr, and it doesn't make much sense for him to do that when he could just pursue Canelo at 160 instead.
I think he will fight at 160 two more times, and depending on how other match-ups go, Canelo will probably make the most important decision of Golovkin's career next summer.
He would basically have to jump right up to 175, and he is not any 175 pound fighter

There's an old saying in boxing that a good big man beats a good little man every time. Those who fault GGG for not fighting Ward should squawk more about why matches boil down to promoters' & managers' egos, attitudes and greed. It's ridiculous that champions within a division can't face each other to unify, but instead are pressured to fight naturally taller, bigger men to prove their mettle. The only reason Ward wants Golovkin is because he needs a boost after screwing up his own career with inactivity.

I believe Martinez was approached about a Hopkins fight at 170. He declined all because he was basically a jr middleweight, who was presented opportunities at middleweight and took them. That's not the case with GGG. Also, Martinez had proven himself, GGG hasn't.
does he have something to prove @ 168 ? didnt he clean the division ?
you are such a hater its unreal , GGG will do what Ward does not and thats change weight class , just let him win is weight class first as every website has him as #2 MW after Cotto , can he at least get that honor from you ? be the top MW recogonized by all ? and not just forum members ?

Cotto started out as a light welter so he'll be a fool to fight a heavy hitting, natural middlewieght like GGG. Alvarez is a logical choice, but a puncher should be looking to move up to fight bigger fighters, not down to fight smaller ones.

As for me being a hater. Feel free to call me whatever you want. I just want GGG to validate all the hype and do what he said. He said anybody from 54-68. Fight Ward.
