It never has. Going up a division or divisions and beating guys bigger than you is a huge achievement, but too many people treat it like the norm. Weight classes exist for a reason. If a fighter is gonna be at a huge disadvantage at a higher weight, then the fight shouldn't happen, because it doesn't speak to who the better fighter is. It just turns into a Saul Alvarez-Josesito Lopez type deal.

I don't particularly agree with bigger guys coming down, unless it's only a pound or two, because doing so can put a real toll on the body. I'd rather GGG keep doing what he's doing, and eventually move up and fight Andre Ward or Carl Froch. If he goes down to 154, he could potentially ruin his body for 1 solid payday, and then never be the same. Roy Jones did it moving down from heavyweight, and it cost him. After he beat Ruiz, he became pretty average going forward, having to lose so much weight to fight Tarver. Chad Dawson after getting destroyed by Andre Ward has looked like a literal shadow of himself ever since, and all it took was 7 lbs.

GGG has the right gameplan IMO. Stay at 160, unify, then move up. Floyd beating the man at 160 in a 154 lbs fight holds no weight to me. If Floyd doesn't move up and challenge for GGG's crown, what the hell is the point? It's just another fighter he beat on scales before the fight even started :/

Considering that he beat the lineal 154 champ, I can't agree with you, but he should have been stripped due to his inactivity by now no question. On the flip side, this thread is concerning Mayweather fighting a middleweight, so calling him a paper 154 lbs champ is irrelevant to the conversation, unless you're trying to discredit GGG's win before it happens

      • There's nothing to discuss. The great FW, ducks GGG at all costs.

        • I dont get these floyd****s. Why dont they want to see Froid PEDweather in a meaningful fight? They've even applauded froid's ducking of Manny and now this! Floyd could nail himself as an ATG if he tried for the next step and grab a title at MW, and if not, whats the problem with him fighting GGG at LMW where he is supposedly the world champion. ****s and ****heads, every single one of the little fookers. No exceptions.

          • I can't recall a time in boxing when the #1 ranked contender at MW and his camp talks so much about fighting the ww and jww lineal champion. Imagine if a fighter who NSB doesn't like discussed fighting guys from lower weight classes this much? I'm sure the reaction would be quite different.

NSB loves to elevate fighters that didn't fight Floyd. Manny, PWill, Maragarito and now GGG. Of course ODH, shane, Hatton, Cotto and Canelo were also in that group but once they lost to Floyd suddenly they weren't that good anymore.

The highest Pacquaio has weighed was 151 lbs.

Wow I didn't know Manny weighed that high on fight night before.

I know he was at 152 ish when he went into camp for Margarito (could be wrong on opponent) but I didn't know he'd actually come to the ring at 151.

Which fight was that the 4th or 3rd?

Blame the interviewers for asking about it. GGG and his team most likely aren't bringing it up on their own accord.

he previously talked about Floyd being his "dream fight" an discussed this on more than a few occasions. I think its part of his team's marketing strategy-link him to Floyd whenever possible.

And do you think he just randomly began to speak of his dream fight or was he asked what his dream fight is? Two different situations. I've seen plenty of interviews where they talk about Mayweather and when they don't. Difference is: the ones where they talked about him were ones where he was brought up specifically. You think they're just going to not answer the question? Of course they are, whether they believe a fight can realistically happen or not.
