$ 100 million wouldn't be enough for May to take this fight.

Canelo wasnt considered The Man by anyone, look at his resume then. A disputed win over Trout and what else? 2nd best win shot undersized Mosley, or Ryan Rhodes?
But its not just this that makes Floyd a joke of a lineal SWW champ, its that his fanboys keep disowning the belt when discussing tough fights at SWW, saying this paper champ is too small and old to take on all comers at the weight
2. Who at 154 was rated higher than Canelo at the time? Unified champion with the Ring belt isn't good enough to start a lineage? Who else at 154 did he need to beat then? I'm pretty sure Canelo was #1 at SMW, aka "The man."
3. I'm not a Floyd fanatic, and as such, I call BS on plenty of stuff Floyd does. I don't hate him however, so I attempt to look at it from both sides, instead of just hoping he sends himself to the chopping block. He has stiff competition at 147, and I don't think he should challenge the best middleweight in the world at 38 years old, after already going through 5 divisions. He's entirely too small to face GGG. De La Hoya - Hopkins should tell you that.
I don't think Floyd is ducking GGG, the same way I don't think GGG is ducking Ward, the same way I don't think Ward is ducking Kovalev. Implying that someone is ducking a guy in another division just doesn't compute to me.Last edited by doom_specialist; 10-08-2014, 01:30 AM.

IDK. Whilst I accept that it is a legitimate match-up providing Golovkin is willing to go down to 154 and challenge for Floyds JMW titles, I just can't work up that much enthusiasm for this fight.
Maybe I'm overating GGG or underating an aging Floyd, but it seems to me that most people wanting this fight are more interested in seeing Floyd get beaten than in seeing a competitive boxing match.
Now, I ain't a Floyd fan - in fact I'm largely indifferent, but I've also no desire to see him beaten up in a fight he has no real good reason to take, just for the sake of it.
The 6lb gap between JMW and MW is relatively one of the easiest in the sport to cross and given that Golovkin actually comes to the ring lighter than a good number of top JMWs I've little doubt we'd see close to a full fettle MW in Golovkin fighting Floyd. To me, this would be a large step too far.
I'm one of those who scored FMJ - Maidana I fairly wide to FMJ, but Maidana wasn't (and still isn't) even an elite WW. Golovkin is an elite MW - not only does he posses far greater power, he is, more importantly, a level or two above Chino in the skills department.
As Loeffler points out, Golovkin, like any other fighter able to make the weights FMJ fights at would like to be in the sweepstakes, but he's also smart enough to acknowledge that there's no point in even discussing it... Floyd fights who Floyd chooses, and there's no good reason to expect Golovkin to be part of that discussion.
IMO Golovkin should try to work towards MW unification over the next year, but if he's reached mid 2015 without any big fights on the horizon at 160 he needs to get his ass up to 168 (and he'd be smart to consider any lucrative fight that turns up at 168 in the meantime anyway - if only to make a mark - and a few $s).
