I don't even know where to start with this one. If Haymon PAID NBC spots money for dates, that can be a real problem for boxing fans. That would mean that Haymon would be able to sell advertising to recoup his money. The price is less than $1 million per broadcast. Haymon can earn that amount back by selling five commercials. What that means is that Haymon could continue to provide boxing fans with crappy fights like Garcia/Salka and still make a profit because he will make enough money from selling commercials to pay for the cost of the broadcast and pay the fighters and still end up with a few million in his pocket.
Second, how the hell is it posslble that Cathy Duva, a supposedly major promoter, could allow Haymon to outbid her? She claimed that she made no money off the last few fights. That is because they were crappy fights that people did not want to pay to see. That is also because she does not have a quality stable of fighters to put in the ring. The only potential star she has is Kovalev and Hopkins will expose him in November.. I guess she will now go back to taking handouts from HBO or begging Showtime to throw her a bone.
Also, Main Events aren't major promoters and you have a lot of confidence in Hopkins.Last edited by Weebler I; 10-03-2014, 08:45 AM.Comment

I agree with what this poster said:
The only reason hes doing this is because...
A. HBO does not want him.
B. Espinoza is about to get the axe and haymon is prolly going down with him for giving the fans shiet fights and mayweather not being able to generate income for showtime.
The networks are suppose to pay the promoter/s. Not the other way around!Last edited by Deevel916; 10-03-2014, 08:53 AM.Comment

It depends how much he receives for commercials. American Idol commercials are 500k for 30 seconds and that has been the ceiling. An NBC boxing show is going to be way less, maybe as low as 50k so he'll have to put on good fights to get bigger advertisers interested.

I saw a good graphic but I couldn't find it again, but this is from 2011 which gives you a rough idea of what a commercial costs. You can flick through the days.
Ad Age's 2011 TV pricing tally proves that shows with more live viewership, such as pro football and "American Idol," command an ad premium.
Sunday night football on NBC was equal with American Idol, it cost $512k for a 30 minute commercial but the average viewers is 27 million. Hard to see boxing show pulling anywhere close to that.Comment
