  • I don't even know where to start with this one. If Haymon PAID NBC spots money for dates, that can be a real problem for boxing fans. That would mean that Haymon would be able to sell advertising to recoup his money. The price is less than $1 million per broadcast. Haymon can earn that amount back by selling five commercials. What that means is that Haymon could continue to provide boxing fans with crappy fights like Garcia/Salka and still make a profit because he will make enough money from selling commercials to pay for the cost of the broadcast and pay the fighters and still end up with a few million in his pocket.

Second, how the hell is it posslble that Cathy Duva, a supposedly major promoter, could allow Haymon to outbid her? She claimed that she made no money off the last few fights. That is because they were crappy fights that people did not want to pay to see. That is also because she does not have a quality stable of fighters to put in the ring. The only potential star she has is Kovalev and Hopkins will expose him in November.. I guess she will now go back to taking handouts from HBO or begging Showtime to throw her a bone.

        • NBC sports averages under a 1mil viewers any given day. WAY UNDER!

I hope he gets those 4 NBC dates.

Haymon's not going to get sponsors to cover $1mill per fight and atleast another mill to cover fighter & misc expenses if he's putting on crap fights. That's why you don't see ESPN consistently have big cards and they have way more money to back such a venture than Haymon. What's going to happen in addition to the Haymon-NBC shows, Haymon will open up an online package like UFC where fans can subscribe to watch web shows and all his fighter's library for like $10/month. In addition I'm sure there'll be ppv shows that will be promoted/built using the NBC show.

            • This can only be good for boxing. Haymon is definitely a major player, looking to shake up the current landscape of the sport. I can't hate on him for that.

              • If we can get fights that are normally on HBO or Showtime back on regular TV, I'm all for it.

                • I wonder if he'll be able or have the right to have his fight cards broadcasted internationally too?

Al is a smart guy, I am pretty sure the money is not his but it's coming from investors. He's probably already sold the idea to advertisers. I wouldn't be surprised if the fight cards take place in MGM where Floyd fights and he gets a lot of money from the casinos. I think for this model to function where you pay for airtime you have to be able to get money from casinos because anywhere else you'd want to have boxing you pay a site fee.

So he's got investors, advertisers, sponsors and casinos, most likely MGM. He's thought of all of this by now and he's likely not going to show quality match-ups.

If Garcia vs Salka can generate good ratings on Showtime imagine what the rematch will do on free television.

                  • Well fights like Gracia vs Salka is better suited for NBC Sports so maybe this is a perfect situation.

                    • I think he's gonna have guys like Broner, Lara, Mathyse, Thurman, Maidana and the rest of his stable fight low-level fighters and then he can demand bigger money from Showtime for more quality match-ups.

If Showtime was willing to match HBO's offer of 4 mil for Canelo vs Clottey who is to say that they won't be willing to give the same amount of money for a Thurman vs Maidana fight.

And imagine Thurman becomes a star on NBC because he does have an exciting fight, then him fighting on Showtime could lead to more subscribers for Showtime.

I don't like Al Haymon but there is no negative in this deal.

If it works, it will make for possibly better fights on paid TV and meanwhile you get to see the exposure fights for free insted of on paid networks.

If it doesn't work Al may be gone and his figthers will have to accept whatever deals there are to make money.

I think it's great, can't wait to see what happens.
