kirkland's an odd case. he's been to prison twice, IIRc, since he turned professional. not just short jail sentences, but prison. he was also knocked out in one round against nobuhurio ishida.


he's a talented guy, and does have a crowd pleasing style, but there's more to it than that. he's had managerial and promotional issues, the layoffs, the losses. he's just had a bad career.

i don't think that's completely fair. kirkland is half of an amazing fight. his war with angulo had me feeling like i was being shocked with electricity. i woke up the next day,a nd had the same feeling when i watched the DVR. he's just a freakishly exciting fighter.

he's got the power and the bad chin. he's a bit like gatti, without the crazy powers of recovery and b- level boxing ability. gatti didn't have a great chin, and could be hurt to the body. people forget that. who knows what he will do next? he might beat somebody up, and he might catch a big shot and get knocked out.
