the boxers have a responsibility to the fans, and its possible for boxers to not give the fans anything to get excited about if they wanted to.

If a boxer wants to clinch, it is basically saying I don't want my opponent to throw punches at me, as I don't know what do to do.
Therefore it might be best for the boxer who wants to clinch to have taken up another career where opponents don't aim punches at you.

But if im watching a fight between 2 boxers that ive never seen and I don't know who they are, the one who clinches the most is the one I view as the inferior fighter and feels most vulnerable and lacks confidence and thinks his opponent is a bad ass.

There is skill in clinching. It's just harder to see.

I think the biggest problem is that refs break the clinches straight away. It means an outside fighter (Wlad, Mayweather, Alexander etc) just needs to grab the other guy for a few seconds before the ref breaks them up and reestablishes distance. If the ref let them fight it out It will force guys like Porter, Povetkin and Maidana to learn how to fight in the clinch like the oldcomeforward fighters used to.

Honestly people moan way too much about clinches

Look at Andre Ward as an example of a come forward inside fighter who learned to fight in and dominate the clinch.

Can you see an outside fighter trying to shut Ward down using clinches? No, because they'll get beaten up there too.

Hatton as well until he came up against a bigger, better fighter in Mayweather.

Aggressive fighters should own the clinch.

abraham clinched ward plenty, although they also had a ****** ref

you're right ward always keeps a hand by his face and it's difficult to neutralize him in the clinch

                    but watch this rd:

Great great example of how a clinch fest fight should be handled.... imagine kenny bayless breaking the inside fight as soon as one of them clinched, maybe duran wouldnt have beaten leonard...they both initiated it as much as the other but with diffrerent purposes, leonard was waiting mostly to get broken up to give room to operate and duran to do what he does best, make it a rough and inside fight...leonard held his own tho on the inside....great refereeing by carlos padilla there...
