I was just reading some Mexican news, lots of comments saying that Ortiz was ****y and disrespectful with other boxers back home, thinking himself better than everyone else. Most Mexicans commenting were glad he got stopped and brought down from his high horse.
Lack of common sense from ref and dumb ******ity from the fighter i reckon.
Ortiz either miscounted what number the ref was counting, doesnt understand you cant start standing up at nine (fcking hell even if you are up at 9.5 why take the chance?), or just did the whole 'quit without looking like I want to quit' routine.
Ref should have used common sense and let the fight carry on IMO. Even if he was well within his rights to stop it. If Ortiz was really done he would have known pretty quick, and its not like he had taken a lot of damage in the fight.
I hate to defend Ortiz because he was awful and would have been brutally beaten anyway but you guys are wrong here.
First, it doesn't matter how many real time seconds have passed. It goes by the referees count which Ortiz did beat.
Second, just take a look at the boxing rules. It only states that a fighter must be on his feet before the count of 10. Ortiz was on his feet before the count of ten. His knee was no longer on the canvas when Benjy said ten. This isn't hard to get.
spot on here, although I don't think Ortiz was terrible, he was giving it a good try but all that's irrelevant, he was up at the count of 9...it doesn't matter at what stage you get up, you just gotta get up before 10 and people here don't seem to get that. It was like the Malik Scot KO.
On Ortiz's part, he should have risen at 8 but he stayed that extra second longer, it shouldn't have been a ko either way tbh.
