Kovalev has acknowledged that he got KDd (he also explains his poor level of mental preparedness for the fight - there is an article on Kovalboxer.ru somewhere) that isn't in question I think.

As to Boone being 'robbed' in the first fight I don't even think Darnell himself has even claimed that. From the few available accounts it's seems like Kovalev swept the early rounds and had Boone hurt badly but failed to capatalise and then just kinda gassed. According to his own account he just hadda grit it out through the last coupla rounds.

There is an interview I've seen about Darnell feeling he won a fight against an unamed top fighter where he dropped his opponent and he disagreed with the decision going against him, but the same piece refered to it being a 6 rounder, which makes it sound like the Ward fight.

But yeah, unless Jas has researched his Kovalev stuff far more thoroughly than me, which seems doubtful - his claim that 'many thought Boone was robbed' comes straight out of his own imagination (by which I mean a lie).

Shame. When it's not to with Hopkins Jas is actually a decent poster.

Boone - Kovalev I, took place in Boones hometown at a time when Kovalev was a unknown foreign contender fighting for no wages for an effectively unknown manager and was unpromoted, whereas Boone was already something of a local hero and (I'll have to Boxrec it) had hardly, if ever, lost fighting in his backyard.

Golovkin and Kovalev have not proved they can fight going backwards.
        1. Because i wanted to show you, that even when Floyd fought going forwards, it wasnt against elite fighters or fighters in their prime and he also couldnt get them out. Say what you want but punching power is a skill.

Punching power is not a skill, it's a physical attribute.

Yeah, it was a legit KD. Kovalev said that he was literally hungry in this fight, and hadnt energy after 3 round or so...

so why 2 fighters with same weight and hand speed have absolutely different punching power? Because one of them knows how to shift his weight and has better coordination, and you can work and improve those things...

he is fundamentally sound and has excellent power. its not just the pure power either but he is very sharp and crisp with his punches. throws them straight and with very good accuracy.

there are still several question marks surrounding him, you dont know for sure that he has these flaws but you dont know for sure that he doesnt either. imo he is still very untested in many aspects.

his chin is suspect and his stamina completely untested. we dont know how smart he is and how well he can adjust when things arent going his way, or how many dimensions there are to his game in general.

its a mix of his talent and level of opposition. kovalev is very good, there is no doubt about that. that said a lot of people have gotten way ahead of themselves, as is the custom whenever a big puncher begins to make waves in the sport.

BHop is there for the taking at his age, but he will still ask some questions of kovalev. if he gets past hopkins like i expect stevenson will be there to ask some more. that i dont see kovalev getting through in one piece, let alone with a W.

regardless of who beats who these are all top notch fighters though, 175 is really good atm.

Paulie Malignaggi can work and train all he wants, he'll never be a hard hitter.

Some guys punch harder than others. Power is not a skill.

Oh so the opposition matters when it's Mayweather but not when it's Kovalev?

He was an offensive machine at the lower weights, obviously against bigger guys he has to be more selective in his approach.

                      Right....and Kovalev's best wins are?
Develop from the beginning... it's obvious he would need more... Floyd's competition wasn't good early on, it was Broner like.. let's not pretend he was stopping good fighters or anything. If all Floyd had was pressure, he wouldn't even be talked about because he isn't particularly good at it.
