  • Two things.....

Wasn't picking anyone leading up to the fight..had not seen enough of Brook. Thought Brook won close but clear. Porter was out working him in some rounds but Brook seemed to do better and better as Porter tired/ got discouraged.

Porter is not Maidana. By any stretch of the imagination. First off Maidana has a jab and a different body type than Porter, secondly the only reason he was missing as much as he did was he was fighting Floyd Mayweather. He would tag Kell left and right. As for being a bull, Maidana does the bull rush thing better too. I like Porter, but there is little comparison between him and Maidana, except they are both aggressive.

This is why I expect the PED rumors to increase around Shawn Porter.
In his prime, Paulie was an average fighter at best. Now that he is much older, he has slowed down a lot and is much easier to hit. People started overrating an old Paulie because he fought a close fight with Broner, but to me, that fight just proved how much Broner really sucks, Now if Porter would have done what he did to Paulie, to someone like Timothy Bradley, I would have probably been on the Porter bandwagon as well.

Wicky, you make it sound like Brook put on a masterclass but it was anything but. Even he said he won ugly after the fight. It was an ugly close fight and a tough one to score. Seeing it live from row 9 I thought Porter did enough to win but watching the replay on TV I can see giving it to Brook. It came down to Byrd & De Luca favoring the accurate punches of Brook which were primarily jabs over the volume power punching of porter.

I think the English judge's scorecard was the most accurate and similar to mine. Credit to Brook for staying poised and negating Porter's wild rushes with Andre Ward-like tactics -- punch-punch-hold. Porter did not get enough credit for his work on the inside, especially to the body. Shawn was not accurate enough with his punches as he was trying to get inside by any means necessary. If you look at the final punch stats though it all came down to what you gave credit for the most. It was close enough to justify a rematch in England but not excited to see it again.

Great Post!!! Also don't forget because Cotto beat Paulie, it makes him much better to up Cotto's resume. Fan boys like to do that.

                  • Brook proved me wrong, I thought either Brook was going to win a controversial decision or that Porter would win on points beating a game Brook. Hopefully this win is the start of a new British sensation, I have 0 problem with the WW pool becoming larger.

floyd kept leaning forward and ducking down, that's one reason why he got hit so much behind the head. porter fights more like bradley or mares, maidana is not that wild.
