  • The Porter team underestimated Brook. They saw a guy who was wilting under pressure from an over the hill Carson Jones.

The problem is their type of pressure turned out to be the non correct type of pressure. Jones used a different version of pressure. To hover in front of you and then pick the right spot and timing to WORK his way in, crank some shots and then back out before they can clinch or counter effectively.

Porter would just rush in, smother his own shots and get tied up. Why did he do it? He commits to much because he has this belief he has huge power now, and he doesn't. He has the legs and speed to be super effective darting in and out, but is so gung ho now he forgets how to do it once he warms up in there.

It came down to Byrd & De Luca favoring the accurate punches of Brook which were primarily jabs over the volume power punching of porter.

I think the English judge's scorecard was the most accurate and similar to mine. Credit to Brook for staying poised and negating Porter's wild rushes with Andre Ward-like tactics -- punch-punch-hold. Porter did not get enough credit for his work on the inside, especially to the body. Shawn was not accurate enough with his punches as he was trying to get inside by any means necessary. If you look at the final punch stats though it all came down to what you gave credit for the most. It was close enough to justify a rematch in England but not excited to see it again.
I didn't mention masterclass. It was a dirty, scrappy fight, but Kell remained composed, applied a consistent strategy and gradually picked Porter apart. It's not up for debate, that's just what happened.
