you two both missed the point. what got hopkins mad imo wasnt the "if" part its the part about beating kovalev being the best accomplishment of his career. something which truly is ignorant and insulting.
not to mention the part where he questions if hopkins can still do it, i think hopkins was insulted and rightfully so. yes, he is 50. thats exactly why you give him the benefit of the doubt, he proved people he still had it so many times. like he said "i already proven im not the norm". after 15 years of people asking him if he is done (and i understand that people are wondering, i am too) he thinks he has earned the benefit of the doubt. that people should stop hounding him about his age until one of these young fellas prove he cant hang anymore.

What Max did was discredit a legend who deserves much more respect than what he gave him. Hopkins has proven himself over and over again. Max should have asked Kovalev how he would deal with a legend like Hopkins instead of the other way around. Kovalev is a damn good fighter, but lets be serious he has not had the level of competition that makes us feel like he is going down in history as one of the greats. So we don't know if he's great or just a good fighter who is doing what he should be doing. On the other hand Hopkins is a living legend who has fought and beat fighters at a much higher level of competition. The biggest question is when will BHop start looking like a 50 year old fighter?Comment

Hopkins is a egotist but I don't think Kellerman did anything wrong. It is such an anomaly for a 50-year old in any sport to take on what is perceived as a big challenge, that question about whether he can still do it should be asked. It would be irresponsible for an interviewer to leave that out.
But I don't think, Hopkins took it as seriously as people make it out. He is also playing his role. The "Alien", who does things and says things contradictory to normal human beings. He can't even entertain the question "if" he loses. He has to have complete belief. That will part of the shield he wears into the fight. He thinks if a small doubt enters, he could lose.Comment
