Hardcore boxing fans knew Canelo was fighting Lara but Casuals are the ones who buy the majority of PPV's and they had soccer on their minds
And in a way the fact that the World Cup games were televised for free was a bad thing for the Canelo fight. People were more hyped for that and were like why would I pay to see a fight when what I really wanna see is this soccer match and I could spend that money on food and beer.

With so much PPV's this is what its going to be like, even Floyd and Pac didn't hit 1 mill except Floyd vs Canelo.
Also is Canelo even known in the US to casuals? One thing i noticed is Floyd and Pac are really in the fore-front of boxing it's not even close, without them i don't see boxing talked about. Floyd and Pac are the only boxers constantly talked about on espn and other big sports networks. They are on talk shows and alot of other sports stars and celebrities know and respect them. Floyd got alot of twitter followers for a boxer and Pac got over a mill and hes not even active like that.

Angulo fight did better numbers, yet the Lara fight was the better fight, and it's not like angulo brought a bunch of fans,, the Mexicans that like angulo are the same ones that like canelo.. There really wasn't another fanbase to bring.. Canelo-Lara should have done at least what the angulo fight did if not more.. Doing 100k less than the angulo fight, is a bad sign, especially since canelo looked like a million bucks vs angulo.. Coming off a great showcase performance vs angulo, and then for the PPv numbers to go down in a legit big fight with Lara is not good.. I expected it would do about 400k
The Kirkland fight will probably also be on PPV....don't know if he'll be back on regular Sho/HBO.
If they do do the Cotto fight next year.... that'll be the fight that determines his future... but honestly... even if he loses, they'd still put him on PPV.

Floyd vs ghost, Ortiz, Maidana, do roughly a million or less.. But give Floyd a marquee opponent like oscar, Shane, cotto, and you will have blockbuster numbers...
Ali-Frazier 3 is gonna sell a lot better than Ali-young or lyles..
Tyson vs seldon is gonna do less numbers than Tyson-Holyfield..
PPv fights is a 2 sided equation, and if both sides are considered marquee then it will do big numbers.. Lara was not marquee
