MMA fighters usually have more muscle bulk than boxers. They need it for the grappling etc. But whether they are ahead of boxers in overall conditioning - stamina and recovery rate - is highly debatable.
You can put on 2/3st of muscle, but your heart and lungs are still the same size as they were before, which means that, overall, your oxygen uptake will be reduced.
Another thing worth mentioning is that testosterone replacement therapy, known in boxing as steroid abuse, is rife in MMA. Until recent changes in the rules, many of the top guys in the UFC were supplementing with artificial testosterone. Most of those guys, I'm sure, will be busy trying to find ways around those new rules right now.
TRT is probably a better explanation than CF for the bulging muscles and hyped up energy you see in some of those MMA fighters.
