Ok then so really there is no news? He was defending both titles against Maidana? Or does it only count when Floyd decides it does? That's where the confusion starts

Ummm yes, news flash boxing isn't a sport just a money making scam that is pretty entertaining. The rules really don't matter as long as we are talking about someone who sells tickets.

If Floyd was to fight cotto at a weight of 160 with all 3 major titles on the line, it would make sense. Otherwise no.

He can do it with Garcia too. You would have the 140 WBA/WBC, the 147 WBA/WBC and the 154 WBA/WBC

That would be pretty cool in terms of titles at stake, but that would mean Floyd trimming down to 140, which I don't think he could do safely

Floyd weighs 147.50 and gets permission from the WBC to have the 147 pound title at stake even though he is technically over the limit. That way he meets the requirements for the 154 pound belt and doesn't really blow the 147 limit out of the water.

Fair opinion, but I posed that question more as a precursor to this one:

If Floyd doesn't have to defend his belts with a mandatory, I really do not see the point here. Is this to promote his fight or something?

147.5 definitely will not count as a world title fight. I've heard of welterweight fights higher than 147 before from technicalities, but never world title fights above the weight limit. Then again, it is the WBC

My only guess is he will try to put all the titles on the line against cotto's mw title. That's a lot of hardware in one fight. That's the only thing that makes sense. One guy holds every major title in 3 divisions.

Floyd could fight for cotto's title weighing in at 47 but cotto would have to come all the way down 47 to get Floyd's two titles..right?

What don't people understand? It needs to be gotten out of everyone's head that Floyd is involved in some organized sport of boxing because he is not. He is a business man who takes someone who is involved in boxing in its poorly organized way twice a year now and makes some business arrangement with them. After that they go back to the sport and all of its loosely enforced rules which change all of the time.

Then how would the 154 pound belt even come into play since the fight is in an entire weight class lower? If that were the case then Cotto could defend his 160 pound belt fighting a guy at 147 right?
