Not sure what the potential for the Martinez PPV take is but it sounds like he's getting screwed.

WTF?? I mean Martinez, he's getting like less than quarter of what Cotto is getting..

    WARRRRRR MARTINEZZZZZZZZ

All Martinez had to do was learn to speak English and he would have been much more of a draw, and made a lot more money in his career at this stage. That's why Manny, Marquez and Cotto all work on their English - it was a business decision more than anything else. You increase your appeal to English-speaking viewers by removing the dreaded translator.

I remember thinking after the Paul Williams rematch that Martinez would learn English soon after that fight, purely for financial, marketing, global-profile reasons. It seems either his advisors didn't force the point or he just couldn't be bothered to learn it because he thought it wouldn't be beneficial (or maybe a hatred for English due to the Falklands War with England back in the 1980s?)

cotto is a huge draw, he is by far one of the most popular fighters. his fan base seems to be very big. He always has a lot of support in MSG too. he deserves the bigger purse in the fight, maybe not such a big gap but i dont see anything wrong with it. martinez doesnt even speak english, that kills their chance of making big money.

Now we know, money wise, who is the A side B Side of this show...

bro I agree and disagree with you, yes better promotion he will have better money, but he will need a miracle to have PBF-PAC money...

both PBF-PAC had the benefit of the Golden Boy Effect ....

I agree. They may not speak the English language all that well but at least they do put forth the effort in a attempt to communicate with the U.S. television audience in a language that they can understand which broadens their overall marketability and appeal. Also, let's not forget about JCC, Jr. He speaks English too.

Many boxing scholars and historians still feel to this day that the main reason why Roberto Duran wasn't as popular as he should have been back in the 1970s and 1980s was his refusal to speak directly to the U.S. television audience in English. Like Martinez, his English vocabulary may not have been the best but at least he could have spoke it well enough for the U.S. television audience could understand him. However, like many non English speaking boxers they are just too self conscious to do so.

Sergio will easily make $ 10 million for this fight.

He is guaranteed $1.5 plus $500k South American tv money.

He gets 33 % of PPV after cost.

Do the math =. 400k PPV sales at $60= $24 million.Sergio would get 1/3 of that after cost...so about $6-7 million and thats at only 400 k for PPV sales.

The PPV #s for this fight will be over 600k,easily.

Cotto will end up with about $ 13-14 million.

Sergio got $4.9 million from Chavez fight and Chavez got a little under $ 8 million after PPV money cuts.

I'm guessing his low purse is the reason why the catch weight is so at 159 and not something like 157 like everyone expected.
