This is about a year ago.

WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin is currently in the final stages of his training camp for his June 29th fight against Mathew Macklin. While the fight against Macklin is a dangerous one, boxing fans and insiders alike can't help but speculate on potential match ups against some of the biggest names in the middleweight and super middleweight divisions. You can count Golovkin himself amongst those who wonder how he would fare against the elite names around his weight class. "Absolutely. Right now my focus is on middleweight but in the future why not? Andre Ward is one of the best in the sport. I think the fight is great for everybody. Not just for the fans but for the whole sport. I work with HBO now and I am open to fights with everybody. Some guys are on Showtime so that could be a problem. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is a big guy. I would like to fight him in the future or anybody else but right now I'm focused on Macklin," Golovkin told BoxingScene.com.

I think GGG is a better fighter than Stevenson because he has never lost a fight and seldom losses a round. He has never been knocked down while Stevenson has been knocked out. If GGG calls any fighters out he does so in a respectful was while Stevenson is a trash talker, a bragger and a name caller. Ward said he would fight GGG but he never said when or where he would fight him or how much money the fighters would be paid. Until those details are on the table a serious offer to fight has not been made.

Dude please. It has everything to do with boxing. Kovalev and Stevnson were in the same division on the same network. That fight should have been made and we all know it.

The guy has cleaned out the division so to speak so I would agree he should move up. Didn't Kovalev call him out and he wasn't really into that fight. I guarantee you if Ward moves up he's not taking a mega fight right away with top tier competition but I hope he does.

what people need to understand is and it's pretty simple if you're a boxing fan, Stevenson turned down the Kovalev fight for Hopkins, Hopkins is a top 3 light heavy with 2 belts. Stevenson is going for the more prestige and possibly more money. It's not a duck.

It is when you're talking trash about Kovalev and calling him an easy opponent. If he's so easy, the best way to make the most money and get the most prestige is to beat Fonfara, beat Kovalev in a huge fight on HBO and then unify in a match against Bernard correct? This would have netted him the most prestige and the most money and if Kovalev was such an easy opponent what's the problem?

It's still a duck! He avoided getting ktfo by Drago to get schooled by Hopkins. Less painful.
