Comments Thread For: Andre Ward on Facing Kovalev, Golovkin, More

I don't get it when fighters who walk around at a higher weight then the next division they are in say they can't move up to that division?
All these top guys have excellent nutrients guys on their teams and could easily have a plan to stay around weight then move back down.
I can see Floyd and Manny not going to 155-160 and fighting guys who come in at 180.

Ward is delusional as hell, he wants to fight PPV stars and says Kovalev is one dimensional but was pleading for a Chavez Jr. fight to make PPV numbers yet some people here aren't even calling Chavez Jr. a top fighter except being heavy handed with legendary talent in his genes.
Won't fight Kovalev, says GGG isn't star back then now he says he would of fought..
This dude is frauding it up! Cmon Ward..

Ward is in a bad position. He is only moderately popular overall, and truly is one of the top fighters in the sport. This is part of the reason why he is trying to leave Goossen. Goossen does not provide the hype machine that he truly needs.
Most fighters get a hype machine, a marketing campaign behind them. Even K2 hyped Golovkin like crazy and still does with it's behind the scene videos. Everyone involved with him keeps his name out there, and the "legend". None of us would know about the 345-5 and sparring stories, without that hype. Golovkin was completely unknown, even in Europe, until he hooked up with Tom Loeffler and Sanchez over here.
Goossen Tutor provided decent fights and took Ward to a certain place, but seems stuck now. Ward's style does not have mass appeal, so he needs a hype machine even more than Golovkin. Ward should share an equal part of the blame, as he has done little self promotion himself.
This is all true, and I agree with you. The problem is Ward made the decision to re-sign with Goosen. He could have signed with another promoter, but he didn't. It's on him.

to deny that there's a resistance, mired in race, to a young, black, american fighter being on top is wrong.
And what gives you the idea that British boxing fans don't like black American boxers doing well?
For as long as I can remember, boxing fans over here in the UK, and also sports fans in general, have idolised the top black American fighters. Literally, idolised them.
Ask a UK sports fan his opinion on Hearns, Hagler, or Leonard, and I guarantee the reply will be that they were great fighters, and it's a damn shame that America is no longer producing guys like them, who were not only the best, but fearless and exciting to watch also.
And that's before we even get to the heavyweights. Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Tyson ... like I said, they were idolised by the British fans and still are today.

This fool thinks he can only fight ppv caliber fights now???? Smh 1 fight at lhw or no fights at 168?? Chavez is about to be gone real soon. GGG is going not going to fight him for the same reason you don't wanna fight Kovalev. GGG was willing to move up to 168 for a ppv fight vs Chavez and that's because he's a draw and Ward is not. Lol ****** but it's the truth. Andre is boring anyway so I don't even care if he doesn't fight any time soon. He's actually the beat commentator HBO has so I think he should stick to that.

How boring is Andre Ward? So being able to take a guys weapons away is boring? being able to make adjustments is boring? hitting someone and not being hit is boring? stop with the brainwashed nonsense, this is how Hitler got Germany behind him, its called propaganda - if enuff people say it the public will believe it ! GGG has fought no one , Kovalev has fought no one, do you really think their teams are going to put them in with the real Killer? Nahhh... I doubt it - I give Chavez his props tho, because he is making a stand, but when Ward makes his stand he gets ridiculed, its OK tho because when he does return he will take all of the frustration out on the Fans favorite fighters..
