Yes, there is an element of speculation that goes with any commentary of this sort. It'd be nice to get the Nevada commissioner on the phone and have him release an official statement directly to the boxingscene forum himself. But nonetheless, there is plenty to go on. And it is pretty safe to say that the backup pair was indeed the red gloves (or a similar pair of Everlast gloves). Moreover, Cliff Rold is generally credible and if he says that a backup pair was approved it is probably the case.

I understand where your coming from but the fact is that the video is exactly what this article is based on, because no one else was in the room when the discussion took place. If you watch the video, the Red loves were never approved, and everyone was cleared from the room. So this article is based on what happened before the room was cleared. If schaefer doesnt know what went down after that room was cleared then the chances of Cliff Rold knowing is slim to none. That being said it is absolutely possible that Maidana may be fighting in the red gloves, as it is also possible he will be fighting in grants. lol we just wont know until something official comes out or until the fight.

what's wrong with 10 ounce gloves?? Did you want him to wear MMA gloves..plus grant gloves are the best gloves on the market right now..most fighters wear them..if maidana has nothing to hide or is not afraid to fight with proper padded gloves there he has no reason to deny them..plus it's floyd who's making him rich..so maidana better stop cheating and keep it fair

Your interpretation of 'common sense' is contradicted by the facts. Like I said gloves were introduced to improve punching power. My common sense says you can hit someone's head with more power and force when your hand is protected.

As for your comment about cuts being more likely I agree, but Maidana isn't going to win any point decision if the fight gets stopped on cuts.

Okay I dont want to be an a$$, but quick boxing lesson. Gloves were introduced to protect the hands back in the roman days. Padding was introduced in the "Boxing" days to protect the hands from cuts when striking to the face, which is why bare knuckle boxing consisted of mostly body punching.

If the fight is stopped on cuts Maidana will win by TKO. The only time it will got to the score cards is if the cut was caused by a head butt. and the ref ruled it a head butt. If the fight is stopped due to a cut caused by a head butt it'll go to the score cards after the 4th round, If the fight is topped before the 4th round it would be ruled a no contest.

I think we are all in agreement that less padding is a bad thing.

I mean jump in the middle of a conversation and acting like you know what your talking about, doesnt mean you actually know what your talking about. Thats not true. Cotto forced Mayweather to fight with 10 ounce gloves. Mayweather wanted 8 ounce gloves. The article was right here on Boxinscene. Cotto fought with 10 ounce gloves that night because he felt it gave him more protection when blocking. Myweather didnt like the 10 ounce due to the De La Hoya fight.
