Padded gloves were introduced to protect fighters hands, the padding allows a fighter to load up on their punches a lot more.

I think they just look at golovkin and want to hit like him so are copying his preference for less padding. It won't help maidana.

Some of these posts are truly amazing. If some of you could momentarily put away your visceral hate for Mayweather then you would be able to see a bigger picture. First you should not be able to compress the padding of a boxing glove to the point of actually feeling your knuckles, and both the blue gloves and the red gloves were like that. Blue gloves were definitely a lot worse and had nearly no padding. Whats really telling is that Garcia admitted all his fighters use the same gloves. That's significant because it is up to the representatives of the opposing fighter to point out these type of issues. The commission will step in if its something blatantly obvious. As you can see Mayweather had to actually put the glove on to show how bad it was. The representative for the commission would not have done that and more then likely would have signed off on the gloves. Its similar to how Margaritto and his corner got away with the plaster wraps. The reason why I outline this is simple, just because these gloves passed inspection in all those other fights, does not mean the gloves are suitable, more likely it means that no one has ever caught it, similar to Margaritto. Expect that Garcia and his fighters will be watched very closely by opponents from now on. I mean the question has to be asked, Why does he want all his fighters fighting with those same gloves? is it because the gloves have thinner to less padding then normal gloves of the same class? That's very possible.

For those who say Mayweather is a coward for refusing to let Maidana use those gloves, you guys are idiots. At the end of the day your not the one climbing in the ring with another man trying his hardest to give you an concussion. Those gloves were pretty much the equivalent of wrapping leather around a fist. You have to ask yourself one question. If you caught some one cheating, would you let them use the same style of glove but in a different color? lol I didnt think so.

Maybe you should watch the video again. The commission did not approve the red gloves in the video and we don't have any other information as to what gloves will be used. Contract is irrelevant if the commission deems the Gloves unsafe. Maidana will have to use different gloves if this is the case.

Your statement is both true and false. Padded gloves were originally introduced in the 1700's to protect fighters hands from cuts, which is why old style bare fisted boxing consisted of mostly body punching, not face punches. However now gloves are padded for both the protection of the puncher and the opponent. And there are restrictions on how little padding is allowed. The padding does soften punches and reduces the chance of cutting and swelling. with out padding the person getting hit is at a higher risk of cuts, and while the fighter is not punching any harder, the punches will feel harder due to the lack of padding. So less padding means the punches will have a more damaging affect, not that the fighter will punch harder.

If I commented on the misleading's of every article on boxing scene i would be as clueless as the majority of these posters. The fact is the article doesn't give any details on what actual gloves will be used in the fight, so as i have not made any judgement on what gloves are being used, it is my belief that based on the video both set of gloves looked to be low on padding. And my original comment was based on the video.
