As long as he is fighting opponents who bring the most money.
Does anybody else see Sergio as a coward.

Martinez is not a real 160lb fighter !!! He is a 154lb fighter that just beat a champion and has made the most of it !!! He deserves everything he has earned as a champion !!! Martinez is a true champion and a amazing athlete!! Martinez vs Cotto is a great fighting!!Comment

Lets be honest, any fighter in his position would do the same.
But after cotto, if he wins he needs to face the top MW contender, he hasnt done so in a long timeComment

No, I don't think he is a coward. I do think he has been a poor champion. He has not fought the best challengers. He has fought some ok challengers put not the best. A good champ fights his top challenger at least once a year and then it's ok to fight a lesser challenger as long as he is rated in the top ten. He did fight Chavez so I give him credit for that. GGG has been his number 1 challenger for years now and he won't fight him. GGG was his number 1 challenger long before he was injured. He took over a year off and I can understand that but his first fight back should have been against GGG who was his top challenger long before he was injured. If he had fought and defeated GGG then I would have no problem with him fighting big money maker Cotto who never beat a middleweight and who had lost 2 of his last 3 fights. People are defending him because he is old and slowing down and deserves this big payday. I don't agree. If you are a true champion you fight your top challengers first and then take an easy fight now and then. If you are too old and over the hill that's just too damn bad. You still have an obligation as the champion to fight the best. If you can't do that you should retire or at least vacate the title. In my opinion Martinez has no intention of ever fighting GGG and neither does Cotto if he wins. So the man who is probably the best middleweight in the world is shutout from a chance to win the lineal middleweight world title.Comment

Thanks man.Best post on here. Not only was Williams one of the most avoided but Sergio knocked his ass out cold in the 2nd round in their 2nd fight. I hardly think he'd be scared of Golovkin if he can beat the likes of Pavlik, Williams and Margarito who was early in his career.
I think the only thing going through Sergio's mind right now with regards to the GGG fight is that the guy hits hard and I don't think Sergio can fully recover from the type of injuries he has had in the last couple years. Hasn't his knee been operated on twice? He also had knee problems due to his cycling past. Add to that hand worries and the fact that he is almost 40 years old, relying on a style all about reflexes and quickness.
A prime Sergio beats any version of GGG.

GGGs trying real hard to fight somebody right now it's jr, but for years guys seem to want paying more money than GGG brings.
No way I think Maravillas a coward, he's been a great champ, but if he beats Cotto and wants to keep on fighting, GGG is the best fight to make - certainly at MW.Comment
