Seems like they took control of his managerial duties, when they are his promoter, which is a conflict of interest

5. CONFLICT OF INTEREST.

Section 17 of the Professional Boxing Safety Act of 1996 (15 U.S.C. 6308) (as redesignated by section 4 of this Act) is amended--

(1) in the first sentence by striking ‘No member’ and inserting ‘(a) REGULATORY PERSONNEL- No member’; and

(2) by adding at the end the following:

‘(b) FIREWALL BETWEEN PROMOTERS AND MANAGERS-

WTF? Garcia is arguing that promoters aren't allowed arrange dates for fights, aren't allowed arrange locations for fights, aren't allowed arrange opponents for fights, aren't allowed arrange purses for fights, and can't can't receive more than 10% of a purse. Only managers can do these things and promoters can't be both managers and promoters.

I know that promoters and managers cannot be 1 but never knew where their duties divided. This is kind of odd

Are promoters only supposed to put up posters and arrange for radio/tv ads? They aren't allowed to negotiate in behalf of fighters? I also was never sure what were the distinct job duties between manager/promoter, but if this is upheld, pretty much every fighter in the world has the right to break their promoter contracts.

I'm gonna go look for that Act and see how they define "promoter"

I'm no legal expert, and haven't read the entire lawsuit, but it seems like Garcia has a good case. That said, this probably means the fight between Garcia and Uchiyama that Arum was working on won't happen. I was really looking forward to that fight.
