Comments Thread For: Roach Hopes Miguel Cotto Can Land Mayweather Again

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is hoping that former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31KOs) secures a rematch, at some point, with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26KOs).

Cotto gave Mayweather a serious run for his money in May of 2012, but ultimately lost a twelve round unanimous decision. Mayweather called it the "toughest fight" of his career. At the time Cotto was trained by Cuban trainer Pedro Diaz, but last year the Puerto Rican star switched over to Roach.

I am so hoping for this too! My fear is that if Khan gets a KO against Collazo, we'll see Mayweather vs. Khan. Also, Cotto might want to beat Canelo first before fighting Floyd, so he can cash out with Martinez, Canelo, and a Floyd rematch. That makes better sense from a business standpoint.

What did Cotto do in fight #1 that would indicate he can win fight #2?

I agree that Cotto should try to go for those three. I do not think that Floyd is moving back up in weight. Cotto clearly cannot make 147. Maybe they can meet at 150 or 151 or just move on. Cotto can fight Martinez in a rematch then end with Canelo.

Im also hooping for this rematch and yes, it would be great if King Cotto would retire with those three wins! I will cement his legacy as ATG if that were to happen.

          War Cotto! Guerra King Cotto!!

I think it's possible. Cotto has a better chance of beating Floyd at 154, than Pacquiao has at 147. But if Martinez is back to the old Martinez, then none of this talk is necessary.

Maybe nothing indicated that he could win a 2nd fight, but clearly showed he can at least punish May.

A lot of people would watch again, just because of that alone.

I really don't know how I feel about a possible rematch, I guess it all depends on how Cotto looks.

Exactly, only Floyd hardcore fans and Cotto haters don't want the fight. Floyd hardcore fans know deep inside that King Cotto has a real chance against him (much better than any other "real" possible) and that will be a competitive fight.

Cotto haters don't want it since it will elevate Miguel over their "compatriots" and they will not acknowledge any credit to the King!

This fight will generate 2M PPV buys!!! Make it happen!
