De La Hoya's greatness should up there with Roy Jones'

Meaning if you put Jones in the top 20 or anywhere, he(DLH) should be up there with him. Not saying DLH is greater, just that he has a right to.

I know a certain group of fans are going to say "WTF!"

Both guys at the time did something legendary, something no other in the history of boxing has done before. Roy Jones went on to win a title from Middleweight all the way to Heavyweight. I don't think it's an accomplishment that will be beaten any time soon. DLH on the other hand, won titles in 6 divisions against a superb amount of competition(yes I know, Pac beat that record).

When it came to moving pretty, Jones is one of the best of all time. Hell, I'd put him in my top 3 easily! That movement however looked much flashier against the likes of cops like Frazier and others that flood Jones' resume. Not saying he didn't looked pretty in moving against quality opposition fyi.

Now to the present day, DLH is retired and Roy Jones is still boxing. Jones has been tarnishing his legacy by accumulating losses on his record to the likes of Green and others. Type of boxers DLH never lost to, prime or no prime. A boxer should be judged by his overall career. Not just picking and choosing!
The greatest movies, music, players in other sports are judged by that standard(From start to finish). Shouldn't be any different for boxers.

Let's look at their overall records.

DLH - 39 Wins, 6 losses, and 0 draws. With 66.67% KO ratio.

    Jones - 57 Wins, 8 losses, and 0 draws. With a 61.54% KO ratio.

My personal OPINION on resumes are Oscar an A & Jones a C+.

I know people are going to cry about the Griffin DQ loss but a loss is a loss. A well deserved one too! Oscar should of gotten a point taken off or even disqualified for the same reason in one of his earlier fights(forgot who it was) for hitting while down.

Now we can compare resumes but be prepared to give DLH his dues for the same standards. Examples are....like praising Jones' wins over McCallum/Trinidad while discrediting DLH's victories over Whitaker/Chavez. Not counting Jones' losses but counting DLH's.

Help me understand where YOU are coming from.....WHY SHOULDN'T OSCAR BE UP THERE WITH OTHER GREATS LIKE JONES(Who is tarnishing his legacy)? That was severely lacking in my other thread about Hagler/DLH and rarely did anyone made me understand. None of that fantasy H2H bullshit either.

Going for a little run but I'll be back to look at some hopefully credible comments.

I know I'm going to get responses like..........

You ignant(closed fist fan boys are not allowed)

    Haha Oscar is a ******

Oscar lost all his big fights(which has been debunked many times)

Is this serious? *followed by no explanation from poster*

No! *Ask to explain* No reasonable response

your argument of jones being hurt by continuing to fight on while shot holds no weight. the same could be said for ali, duran, ray robinson and most of the all time greats. nobody judges ali on his loses to berbick and holmes. just like no one should judge roy on his loses to green and these other guys.

because oscar decided against fighting on and roy didn't, doesn't help make oscar equal to roy.

                Why?

You've had it explained to you before. You ignore it or use incredibly twisted logic to argue them.

I couldn't agree more. The only reason I don't bring up Oscar being one of the most underrated fighters of recent history, is that the mere discussion of the topic gets me too upset when all these young fans want to close their eyes to everything he did prior to losing to Manny as a shell of his former self. It's disgusting and I refuse to put myself through it. If people refuse to ackowledge history in its proper context I am not going to waste time and emotion on their ignorance.

Jones won his biggest fights. Oscar didn't.
