      This wouldn't be so surprising. I remember reading an article after Floyd-Canelo where Schaefer was inferring GBP may not make money on the fight until years down the line.

      Surmising and reading between the lines it could be that Schaefer may have a long-term strategy for GBP while Oscar is alarmed at the lack of profit (or even loss) in the short-term.

        Shaefer has become an overbearing loudmouth over the last couple of years. Energetically that isn't what you want to be, regardless of position or vocation. Life has a way of dealing with that. Curious to see how this situation develops.

          No. Schaefer can only focus on short term basis, which is survival. GBP is broke. They need something big like Canelo vs Cotto. They don't make any profit in Mayweather fights. Schaefer only show up as a prop and represent the mysterious Haymon.

              I don't think there broke but I don't think they have cash either.

              What they have is fighter contracts, show dates, future ppv potential, deals with venues.

              But cash, I doubt they have much of that. People really don't realize the ridiculous costs that goes into being a promoter.

              They also took a lot of loses early on, and still do, and IMO haymon probably sounded like a great person to link up with, but the relationship benefits haymon and his fighters more than golden boy.

                Oscar has been in and out of recovery, and before then was lit most of the time.

                People have been running GB for Oscar for a while, and now they see their chance to keep running GB without having to hand over most of the cut to Oscar.

                My theory is that Haymon and Schaerfer wanted new terms with Oscar, terms that would favor them far more. Haymon is advisor to enough fighters to probably form the best promotional company, especially if Haymon keeps his stellar reputation as not cheating his fighters and only signing the cream.

                  What's interesting (and confusing) is Glaser's tweet says GBP have never turned a profit "ever".

                  @RickGlaser1
                  The investors see all these fights,& yearly GBP has never turned a profit, ever! That is the root of the problem.

                    That wouldnt be surprising.

                    Take a guy like Amir Kahn for example. He had insane star potential being an Olympian, from England, and ******, and an exciting style. Golden boy paid a lot for him. He got a fat bonus along with a million $ guarantee per fight.

                    They paid for potential. So whatever, if anything, golden boy made on him per fight, that was money they already spent. Technically wouldn't be considered profit. And considering he didn't reach that potential, it's probably an all around loss.

                    This business is a constant fight trying to set yourself up to make $ in the future.

                    Canelo will probably be the first big $ fighter that has worked out for GBP. Think about that, after all these years, they really havnt had any fighters or big time ppv guys. And certainly no young fighters.
