He can if they build his reputation based on how Mayweather retired because of him, it's worked using Mayweather name in the past and am sure it would work again if they go down that route.

The only issue with that is everyone and their mom would know it's folklore.

lol man this what boxing has become instead of making a name by fighting, u do it by accusing others of ducking. But if it works i suppose he will take it.

Well everyone is doing it and it worked for them, since most fans are dumb I wouldn't bet against. People still accuse Mayweather of retiring when he knows Cotto and others were in their prime, I mean a man retired and wasn't fighting or competing in any type of competitive activity but he kinda "Forsee his rival" getting into their prime according to some of these plebs.

The only household names in boxing are Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez, Miguel Cotto, Canelo, and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., in my opinion. 4 of those guys should be retiring within the next two years, so if Keith Thurman plays his cards right he could become a big name.

Where does this myth come from? GBP has consistently matched it's best against each other.

I can see Thurman having some success but I have a feeling he'll peak quickly and fade out. 147 is a stacked division and with his style he'll face some problems with heavy hitters like Provodnikov and Maidana. I think Matthysse and Thurman should get it on at 147. There's no reason for Matthysse to stay in the 140 lb. division any longer.

He could if he gets the right fights

His problem is I see him fading fast. Thurman gets hurt in at least every other fight

It's the other way around. Maidana and Provodnikov would have serious problems against Thurman because not only does he hit harder than them, but he can box. I think he batters them from the outside for the first half of the fight and stops them late on. On the same night

Matthysse is an average sized LWW, don't think he should move up to WW tbh.
