**** all this "you gotta BEAT the champ" nonsense Angel and likeminded twits in NSB are spewing these days. It's old-school nonsense that, as an argument, has absolutely no validity whatsoever.

To beat a champion all you need to do is win more rounds than the mother****er, that's it. It's no different from the criteria you need to win any other fight as a professional fighter. Being champion doesn't entitle you to any sort of preferential treatment from the judges or referee and you certainly don't have to knock him out, drop him, or dominate him from bell to bell. Winning seven rounds is enough to dethrone any champion. Point. Blank. Period.

Whether Herrera did that or not is up for debate, though.

Only thing he did differently is go from circling to stalking. I'm not even condemning his style or tactics. I think a complete fighter can deal w/ any tactic...dirty or clean. Point is. The rounds were close. & standby the idea that a guy is not goin in as the underdog in a fight designed to showcase the other guy & win rounds w/ a jab....especially to the body. While his opponent throws power shots. Is wut it is ****-boy.
**** boy? why are you getting defensive? is it because danny garcia really lost?

Two, some seem to think that a Danny vs Provo fight would be a repeat of Danny vs matthyse. Provo and matthyse are very different. Matthyse, although he is a big puncher, is far more methodical and less active; that favored Danny's style more.
True. I agree that it'd be an interesting fight. Even a mallinaggi fight would be interesting. I do think people give Provo a lil more credit than he deserves. Think about him not walking thru Hererra & the fact that Alvarado had not one but TWO brutal recent wars w/ rios. (& will most likely get stopped again by jmm) I don't think his style would be diff to prepare for. Also...you look at the bradley fight & Provo's face afterward...he can be held at bay. Only reason that fight was anything interesting was bc bradley decided to fight him toe to toe...I'll say this & i think we'd both agree that Danny isn't perfect as a fighter but his flaws makes him interesting. & if he goes to 47 the landscape definitely won't be easy. So, we'll see.

What's funny is that this convo is relatively civil lol! Now back to the debate.

He was held somewhat at bay. Both Bradley and Herrera took tremendous punishment. They both also used a lot of movement, and defensive maneuvers. To top it all off, they both combined, threw an average of about 950 punches in their fights against Ruslan. These are all things I've never seen Danny do extensively.

Also, Bradley fighting toe to toe with Provo for most of the fight is a common myth. Timothy spent the vast majority of the fight fighting on the back foot.

Ruslan is definitely not unbeatable. Danny being a bigger puncher than Bradley and Herrera, gives him a chance. But if he can't hurt him he'd be in for a rough night.

Blah blah blah...not the worst decision I've seen, but Herrera won that fight.

He deserves another shot at it, imo.
