Used to watch Tuesday Night Fights with my dad a lot.

What really did it was watching Barrera beat the snot of the Prince.

mike Tyson was starting to make noise & was set to face trevor berbick & possibly become the youngest HW champion ever...he was all over the sport pages, on covers of magazines, etc. never seen a guy hyped so much in any sport. never seen it since...willie dewitt getting clobbered by bert cooper in saskatchewan & george foreman fought here in Edmonton against ken lakusta during his comeback. i was about 13 or 14. i never got into any weight class other then HWs...

Warrior instinct inside, wouldn't think to look at me. I'm a blues musician, it gets expressed that way I guess.

First fight was ehh Khan Peterson, got absolutely hooked on the hype, knew very little, though Khan was absolute top dog.

After that I guess the next that really hooked me was Calzaghe. When I saw the way he moved, that grace, I recognised beauty - the same deep feeling I might get from a particularly profound piece of music, or some nice literature, an almost mystical feeling.

So that's what I'm hooked on, I try to recognise and suck it up wherever I see it, then hopefully it'll find its way out of me again somewhere down the line.

Speaking of Hamed, I was a big fan, still am a little, but yeah, once I seen the Barrera fight with my 2 years practiced eyes and feeling for the sport I thought less of him. Though coming back to that Grace thing, I think he had it in spades, made poetry with his body. Unfortunate for him I suppose that his teasing style wasn't enough to match a great technical warrior like Barrera.

The first fight I can recall was Tyson-McNeeley. Imagine that. Didn't get hardcore into boxing until 2000. My family was big on Tito, so watching the Vargas fight was one of the more memorable experiences I've ever had.

honestly i started i think through watching ufc. when i was growing up, boxing was very...un exciting. then ufc started getting popular and at first i thought it was gay and stuff but then for whatever reason i started liking it...lol...became a fan but as a few years went on i noticed i really only like it for its standup portions. the grappling and jui jitsu didnt interest me. and the kicking was cool but sometimes i felt like i would just wanna see a straight boxing match. as the years went on i also noticed that some of these guys' techniques are lacking so much in the hands department, its embarassing to watch. so i said hey, why not start watching boxing? this was only like..maybe a year and a half ago. and it was just my luck because at the time, there was some **** going on in boxing at that time. so i became a fan and i have never looked back since. i still watch ufc, but i really think boxing is my favorite.

Jones Jr in his early days fighting in Pensacola. Then along came Mike Tyson and by that time I was hooked.

I started following boxing watching fights with my dad when you had to slap that black and white TV to bring the image back! Early 80s, that was some time to be a boxing fan!
