The truth of the matter is we'll never know who was or is better because Cotto's career was snuffed away from him that night that Margacheato and Capacheato (who both should have a bullet in their heads) decided to lace his gloves with Plaster of Paris. Cotto was never the same, so we really can't say which Cotto would’ve been better than Tito. The Cotto before Margacheato or the Cotto after? The Cotto before Margacheato could've done some amazing things in boxing but we'll never know because 2 low life Mexican's snuffed his career away in just one night.

I believe Trinidad loses to Martinez, he might win against Mayweather
but prime Trinidad vs prime Margarito would be the battle of plaster, a bloody historic battle, I think Margarito would win

Tito's wraps didn't contain any foreing matter, just excess gauze which was only sanctioned by the state where the fight took place. Big diference!

Not in the eyes of Puerto Rico.

In Cotto's defense he fought far better comp than Trinidad though. Trinidad literally fought no one from 94-99 after the Carr fight. Cotto is consistently in tough.

Actually, it was because they placed several layers of tape directly on the knuckles BEFORE the gauze. If I recall, Emmanuel Steward commented on HBO that this can cause it to harden, but I dont remember if he used the word "cast"

                  interesting analysis.

but really good discussion guys. i dont think cotto wins and if he does i still wouldn't, but i think you can argue especially if he defends the belt. i saw a guy claim he would be the greatest PR fighter of all time if he beat maravilla, that was going to be my original question. then i quickly remembered tito and edited it, lol.

Gomez is greater than Trinidad. Benitez might be too.
