He was not born and even partially raised in their culture, lived their lifestyle, nor made connections to the island! They will NEVER give their whole hearts to Garcia. They will support him CONDITIONALLY, not UNCONDITIONALLY! Case-in-point: The minute he signs to fight a native Puerto Rican fighter, that moment the ink dries, he becomes the enemy, the opponent, the unwanted!

    It has to do with being an integral part of their (the Islander's) culture and he is not. Case-in-point #2. Dulorme is half Puerto Rican which is less than Garcia. Who do you think the native Puerto Rican's would support if Dulorme managed to become an opponent? Or Verjejo? Not Garcia! Dulorme and Verdejo ARE a part of the Puerto Rican Culture on the island. It is neither right not wrong, it just is what it is. Garcia will get UNCONDITIONAL support from back east and CONDITIONAL support from the Island! And the antithesis is also true. If Verdejo was to fight in Philly against Garcia some day, the local born and raised Puerto Ricans from the Philly area would support Garcia more than Verdejo or Dulorme for that matter. It comes down to CULTURE!! The really dumb thing that Garcia is doing is he is looking for something that he will NOT get a flight distance away, it has been right in his own neighborhood the whole time, UNCONDITIONAL support! If he wants THAT type of support, all he has to do is get on a plane, fly around the world, land back in his hometown, home state, get off the plane, and it will be right where he started from, right under his nose the whole time! He hasn't figured out that GBP is doing this next flight only for the money in hopes of drumming up new business but he will not find what he is looking for over there in a genuine unconditional way, it is not possible!

    This is the SAME EXACT dynamic as Oscar vs Chavez! Sure anyone can say "Isnt Oscar Mexican, so why would folks south of the border not support him?". And that is NOT true. They supported him RIGHT UP to the point before he signed to fight native Mexican, Chavez and then the folks south of the border pulled for Chavez and turned their backs on Oscar They offered Oscar CONDITIONAL support and JCC UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT. It is like a card came, unconditional beats out conditional. It is what it is! Now I want my green K!
    You win /thread. Let him fight a pure blood Rican in pr and see which way the crowd reacts . My dad loves swift but as soon as he signed to fight an old washedbup morales he became enemy number one (my dad is born and raised in mexico)As do people defending Danny because he speaks Spanish gtfo lol did you here how ducked up he spoke up and he had to read it from the paper given to him. Angel is trying to do now what GBP should have done years ago and thats market the kid to broader audience the way ggg is being set up as a world wide star not a Philly star with some pr fans and some scattered fans in thev usa.

I can guarantee he understands Spanish, listens to Spanish music, and eats Spanish food. So to say he isn't Puerto Rican is dumb.
      Puerto Rican food, I doubt he eats much Spanish food

        You don't see White people stressing that. " your not a real Irish" or Italian , Russian, German...etc
        Italians from Europe tell me that Italian Americans aren't Italian they know nothing of the country, it's history, the culture and language etc. They only know the things their parents/grandparents told them.

        I don't know what Irish think.

        If Danny Garcia claims to be Puerto Rican I'm not going to stop him. He can call himself whatever he wants since he has Rican blood

          Wards father was an Irish American. Both Danny's parents are Puerto Rican born. Not the same bro. And M Garcia is just as Mexican as a Mexican American can possible be. Even Chavez Sr considers him one of his own.

            Well I personally wouldn't root for the Puerto Rican born fighter just because he's born in Puerto Rico.

              Maybe you, but that's not how the masses work when it comes to cultural differences and nationalism. My prior examples in my long-winded message paint a very clear reality.

                Its a nationalistic thing, in mexican's case, if you are not born-raised in Mexico, you are not mexican; even if the law states that you are a mexican citizen if both of your parents are born in mexico.

                De la Hoya -> not mexican
                Victor Ortiz -> not mexican
                Brandon Rios -> not mexican
                Cain Velasquez -> not mexican

                  If you were born there and raised in the usa youre not mexican
                  but if you were born in the usa and raised in mexico youre more accepted thats mexican logic. You have to have lived and witnessed the culture first hand
                  Like margarito who was born in the usa but raised in mexico claims Tijuana and people embraced him

                    Exactly and it's a freaking LAW in this country that's called the (Self Identity) law that basically states that you can claim whatever you want but the hook here is now we have a thing called DNA that tells the real story of who you are and if you have Native American DNA. Which 60% of Puerto Rican's do and then you can say your ***ing Native to the America's and nobody can say **** to you..
