How is Danny Garcia not Puerto Rican?

I was born in the usa as were my parents, but both sides of grandparents were born in puerto rico.

Im not Caucasian just because I dont speak spanish, and eating rice and beans wont make me anymore puerto rican.

I consider myself american with Puerto rican roots.

Caucasian is a group of races that we call "white." PRs can be native american, black (from African ******), white or mixture of the three. (Of course there are also South Asian (India) and East Asian (Chinese) immigrants who are now Puerto Rican.

In any case there is no Puerto Rican race. One is either born there or trace ones roots from there. I trace my roots to a European country. I'm first generation, speak the language, and if you knew my name you would know which country my parents were from but in no way would anybody from there consider me anything but an American.

I live in NYC. There are people that move here from kansas and after a year or so living here say they're from NYC. I go really? Where did you go to school? If it's not a NYC public school it clears things up real quick.

If Puerto Ricans don't consider Danny Garcia Puerto Rican then it's hard to make the case that he is. After all where did Danny go to school?

I can relate to Danny in that we are both American born latinos with Puerto Rican born and bread parents. I'm not sure how he grew up but I ate the food every week, visited Puerto Rico growing up, and celebrated the culture.

I had to teach myself spanish though and even then it's "gringo spanish". I don't know the slang as well and I'm sure I sound like a tourist to them. I have worked with Guatemalans, mexicans, etc and they all consider me a white boy/gringo even when I talk to them in spanish, yet "white people" consider me latino/Puerto Rican. It's just the way it is. I've come to take it for what it is.

I know from family that people on the island are not as fond of American born and raised Ricans. They just aren't.

One thing is I just hope Danny owned his roots at the beginning and didn't embrace them now. That would be a problem. Hope dude all of a sudden didn't start drinking cocito and saying things like, "no seas mamao" to fit in.

This is true and it is especially ****ed in latino culture. People really say things like, "David Ortiz isn't black he's Dominican."

That doesn't make any ****ing sense.

My mother is Cuban and Puerto Rican by blood but she is pretty white because her side of the family is mostly of the European (Spanish blood) descent.

My father on the other hand is Taino blood so he has the indian look to him.

Tito Trinidad has African roots for example.

All Puerto Rican blood.

Um what country does Floyd have bloodlines from? Last I checked Africa is a continent and Puerto Rico is an Island and one specific nationality. I can guarantee Mayweather has no idea where his ethnic background originates. Danny Garcia on the other hand is 2nd gen Puerto Rico. Both parents born in Puerto Rico and speak Spanish. I can guarantee he understands Spanish, listens to Spanish music, and eats Spanish food. So to say he isn't Puerto Rican is dumb.

But to elaborate, as a Mexican, because PR might have their own rules, take Oscar and Margarito. Both were born in LA. Oscar was raised in LA while Tony was raised in Tijuana. Tony is Mexican and Oscar is NOT. It's complicated. But that's the way it is.

Some people JUST DONT GET IT!! No one is saying he is not Puerto Rican but he will NEVER be embraced by native Puerto Ricans as one of their own for SIMPLE reasons that are not difficult concepts to grasp, really! He was not born and even partially raised in their culture, lived their lifestyle, nor made connections to the island! They will NEVER give their whole hearts to Garcia. They will support him CONDITIONALLY, not UNCONDITIONALLY! Case-in-point: The minute he signs to fight a native Puerto Rican fighter, that moment the ink dries, he becomes the enemy, the opponent, the unwanted!

It has to do with being an integral part of their (the Islander's) culture and he is not. Case-in-point #2. Dulorme is half Puerto Rican which is less than Garcia. Who do you think the native Puerto Rican's would support if Dulorme managed to become an opponent? Or Verjejo? Not Garcia! Dulorme and Verdejo ARE a part of the Puerto Rican Culture on the island. It is neither right not wrong, it just is what it is. Garcia will get UNCONDITIONAL support from back east and CONDITIONAL support from the Island! And the antithesis is also true. If Verdejo was to fight in Philly against Garcia some day, the local born and raised Puerto Ricans from the Philly area would support Garcia more than Verdejo or Dulorme for that matter. It comes down to CULTURE!! The really dumb thing that Garcia is doing is he is looking for something that he will NOT get a flight distance away, it has been right in his own neighborhood the whole time, UNCONDITIONAL support! If he wants THAT type of support, all he has to do is get on a plane, fly around the world, land back in his hometown, home state, get off the plane, and it will be right where he started from, right under his nose the whole time! He hasn't figured out that GBP is doing this next flight only for the money in hopes of drumming up new business but he will not find what he is looking for over there in a genuine unconditional way, it is not possible!

This is the SAME EXACT dynamic as Oscar vs Chavez! Sure anyone can say "Isnt Oscar Mexican, so why would folks south of the border not support him?". And that is NOT true. They supported him RIGHT UP to the point before he signed to fight native Mexican, Chavez and then the folks south of the border pulled for Chavez and turned their backs on Oscar They offered Oscar CONDITIONAL support and JCC UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT.
